I have been a dilettante for most of my life, a social practitioner, following creative impulses and community life, which has culminated in an interesting biography, I hope. I've enjoyed it.

As a younger person, my life was organized around music. Going to shows, being in bands, living in punk group houses, going to protests, making posters, zines, clothes. This counter-cultural approach remains formative to how I think about things today... though I don't really do any of those things very much anymore (except for sometimes I do make clothes when I am lucky).

I came to Los Angeles to get a MFA in Studio Art, which I did. Then, I needed a job. Through saying yes to a few things, I became a professional cook and now I have a catering business. It's an unexpected turn but I like it. It feels like making art in terms of materiality and gesture. And it feels more immediately useful and not so rarified! The people's medium!

Making things with my hands and singing along, also joking and laughing. Riffing! By which I mean, verbal free jamming! A cross between non-sense talk and improv comedy. It's my favorite and I don't get to do it as much as I like. I mean, considering how good I am at it.

My friends tell me I am good at being a person, which maybe means I am good at cultivating pleasure. I am a good thinker and talker. Also, I'm a spirited dancer and recently made the prediction that I might die on a dance floor. You know, when I'm really old, giving it all I've got.

Hair? Teeth? Witchy attitude? Acerbic wit? Most recently, my broken ankle.

Lately...

Books: I am a total sucker for biographies of artists living in New York in the 60s, seemingly a time before money. I read cook books. I also like to read some real nerdy art books.

Movies: W.R.: Mysteries of the Organism, Burden of Dreams (seriously, this movie I watch over and over again!),
The Royal Tennebaums, Auntie Mame, Elf
Also, a good rock and roll documentary!

Music, so much, though here's a good cross section: Nina Simone, Dungen, Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers, Al Green, Bad Brains, Joni Mitchell, The Who, The Small Faces, White Magic

Food: oh brother, almost everything!
Often times, I prefer Mom and Pop restaurants but am working through certain fancy pants restaurants.

You like dialogue and hammering out life's greater questions as they manifest in the day to day relations of humans. Maybe are a meditator? Or a stand up comedian with a tender side?

Have an ease and awareness in your body, have some kind of regular body practice.
