(Music) I love a beautiful voice and listen to a lot but will admit
I am out of touch with contemporary pop although Adele has recently
caught my attention. Voices with that element of vulnerability and
a strong sense of yearning really attract me. Voices like Karen
Carpenter and Eva Cassidy for example.
Haunting songs of pain, loss and yearning move me intensely;
Des'ree's I'm Kissing You, Celine Dion's The First Time Ever I Saw
Your Face, Sarah McLachlan's Angel, Madonna's This Used to be my
Playground and Frozen, Jewel's Foolish Games, Kylie Minogue's
Confide in Me, George Michael's I Can't Make You Love Me, Mariah
Carey's My All, Adele's Someone Like You, Toni Braxton's Unbreak My
Heart, Eva Cassidy's Fields of Gold, Richard Marx's Hazard.
I listen to many genres (Opera, Musical Theater, Pop, Jazz,
Acappella, Choral, Classical) and there's way too much to list but
here's a sampling: Fave operas include Madama Butterfly, La Boheme,
Turandot, Rigoletto, La Traviata, The Magic Flute: Fave arias
include Je crois entendre encore (The Pearlfishers - Bizet), Lascia
chi'o pianga (Rinaldo - Handel): Fave opera singers include:
Mirella Freni, Renee Fleming, Cecilia Bartoli, Placido Domingo,
Luciano Pavarotti, Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, Edita Gruberova,
Juan Diego Florez: Fave non-opera singers include Karen Carpenter,
Barbra Streisand, Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, Julie Andrews, Eva
Cassidy.
