I am confident, knowledgeable, and adventurous.

My Self-Summary

I am a very kind and loyal guy. I am intelligent, very well traveled and I have a happy disposition. I have strong liberal political beliefs.

I enjoy travel, but as that is such a common comment it doesn't shed any real light. So, let me qualify it. I enjoy going places and doing things that are unique or change your perspective on life, i.e. Spend a week getting to know the city of Tirana, Albania; go through the Panama Canal by freighter; or Scuba Dive with penguins. Wanna Come? I want to see the world that has not been made safe, the one that is true to itself, not true to what I imagine it to be.

Lately I’ve started swimming everyday. It is really invigorating and gives me lots of energy. I like laughing at the silly things in life and hanging out with my buddies. I've been known to drink a beer as well, but I have a great time with people whether we're drinking beer, coke or tea. I can hold up my end of a conversation whether it is about EU expansion, Venezuelan oil production or the air flight velocity of a coconut laden swallow.

I am finishing my masters in mechanical engineering (I earned my MS in CS a while back) and I’m not sure what I’m going to do next in life. I would like to work in Europe for a couple of years, but I may have an opportunity here in Madison for a couple of years that I can't miss.

I grew up in the quintessential multicultural home. My mother is from Switzerland, and my father is from India. We traveled a lot growing up and I've been to many parts of the world from 63* North to 5* south and all lines of longitude. I've officially resided in the US my whole life, however I've spent about 2 years abroad total. My name is Prem.

I'm looking for a coequal partner who'll complement me and I her.

To that end I would like to meet a very smart (smart girls are sexy), funny, strong woman who's got a good head on her shoulders. Someone who is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others. Someone who loves traveling to distant parts of the world, but who is also just as interested in seeing something new in her hometown or staring at clouds. Someone with whom I can spend a good amount of time with, but not all my free time. I'm happy most of the time; someone who'll cheer me up if I'm bummed; kick me in the pants if I don't snap out of it soon enough (I'm not looking for a mother, I've already got one and she's cool). Someone who is cool without seeing me for a few months when I decide to trek across Greenland, sail around the Caribbean, or something equally silly. Someone who has a sunny disposition. Someone who is not judgmental of others, I'm not interested in sniping at other people with my future mate. Someone who thinks my giant air cannon is awesome! Or better yet, will help me build an even more ridiculous version! Of course these are all just points in the right direction, I don't exactly know what is perfect.

I'm fun and hopefully so are you!\

What I’m doing with my life

I am acquiring knowledge. I am starting to figure out what my next career will include. I am also continuing to work with my family company.

I’m really good at

knowing obscure trivia, forming unusual collections, bribing border officials, cooking, baking, identifying random parts and fixing things, silversmithing, rope bridge building, asking questions, building group momentum so we can finally choose a restaurant, playing restaurant whammy, enjoying games by focusing on the social interactions and not getting overly competitive about who wins.

That is the flippant answer, the more useful answer is focusing on the importance of good and effective communication in a relationship; relationships of any and every kind.

The first things people usually notice about me

My brightly colored glasses - they are currently bright blue or bright green. Though I change their color often.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: I generally like
- History: "Paris 1919", "Who Murdered Chaucer", "Justian's Flea";
- Micro-history: "Salt", or "The Compass", or "Parallax";
- Popular science: ("Guns, Germs, & Steel", "The Song of the Dodo", "Influenza"),
- Cosmology,
- Literature in translation: Naguib Mahfouz, Jorge Amado, Chinua Achebe;
- Politics & news: "Foriegn Affairs", "The Economist", "Al Jazeera", "France24", "DW", "Mainichi", "WSJ"; and
- Humorous fiction such as the writings of Douglas Adams.

Movies:
- by myself or with on or two friends, I like good movies that tell a story well, "Guess who is coming to dinner", "The Grass is Always Greener", "The Guns of Navarone", "Spies like Us", any Indiana Jones;
- in a group, bad movies. Movies like Jamon Jamon - a tale of a love hexagon that ends in a fight to the death with ham hocks.

TV:
- Documentaries: any thing by David Attenbourgh or James Burke;
- News programs: Washington Week, Meet the Press, The Daily Show;
- Sitcoms: How I meet your Mother, Coupling, As Time Goes By, Dharma & Greg;
- Dramas: Law and Order, House, Doctor Who, ; and - I almost forgot these -
- Snarky shows like Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations", Top Gear, most things with James May, and "Lonely planet".

Music: I don't know enough and am looking for someone to teach me about music. Though some things I do like are "They Might be Giants", "Asleep at the Wheel", "Bond", "Bebe", "Tilly and the Wall", "Julieta Venegas", and anything with brass in it.

Food:
I like anything novel or spicy if I haven't had it before I am interested in trying it. I will often go into an "ethnic" grocery and buy the ingredient I have the least knowledge about. Last time it turned out to be duran flavored marmalade. This is somewhat limited by a couple of health issues I have. I am always balancing my desire for the novel with a desire to keep a well balanced diet that provides the nutrients my body wants / needs without ingredients I can't eat. Ingredients like wheat. Though if I had to a single favorite dish it would be fruit salad with yogurt.

The six things I could never do without

This is a question that generally has the same basic answers. Mine are about the same but a bit more literal.

-Shelter
-Food
-Water
-My Insulin
-Companionship
-Books

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Consistency of Tolerant Solid Models (my research area), politics; science, history, and how to get the cheapest tickets to somewhere new and silly

On a typical Friday night I am

Early in the evening I am swimming. Later in the evening I could be at the Hoofer Sailing club social, cooking dinner with the friends, going to a show, reading, watching Washington Week, getting my dive equipment ready for a weekend of diving, or building some backyard contraption.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I like Cary Grant Movies.
