Economy vs Environment

Jul 15, 2010

Which is more in need of attention?

  • The current economy of your country.
  • The longterm protection of environment/resources.

For far too long and far too often, the economy has taken precedence over the longterm protection of the environment. The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is yet the latest episode to remind us that while economic growth may trend up or down from year to year, the environment has been on a steady downward spiral since the start of industrialization. Something must surely be done to stop the rot, so to speak. I'm not going to preach at length about the issue here but let's hope some concrete legislation gets passed to promote cleaner and greener sources of energy to run the economy on. China already has the lead on solar power. It's time to play catch-up or get left behind in the economic stakes as well in the next generations.
