This is where I try to impress you with my sophisticated tastes.
But these are just things I like; they don't define my identity. I
don't think we necessarily need to share the same tastes in movies,
music, etc. because I like to be introduced to new stuff.
I'm a bit of a David Foster Wallace fanatic. It's hard to imagine
enjoying another novel as much as Infinite Jest, but I also dig his
stories and essays. He makes me love writing and think I should
give it up all at the same time. Also enjoy a lot of other
contemporary fiction, and non-fiction writers like Gladwell and
Instead of listing all the movies I like, I'll just say that I dig
anything with a compelling story, well-crafted dialogue and/or
multi-dimensional characters -- comedies, dramas, documentaries,
whatever. But don't worry, I am not going to tell you why Fritz
Lang's use of light and shadow so elegantly underscores the despair
of post-industrial society in Metropolis or something pretentious
like that. At least not that exactly.
I know everyone says this, but I love all kinds of music -- hip
hop, old/new rock, jazz, funk, blues. Here's what's been in my
heavy rotation recently: Jack White, A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def,
Eels, Band of Horses, Mountain Goats, Grant Green, Donald Byrd,
John Mayall, Black Keys, Zeppelin, Alabama Shakes, The Foreign
Exchange, Talib Kweli, Outkast.
When it comes to food, I love to eat, cook, and am pretty
adventurous in doing both.
