I am grapefruit, feminism, and typo.

My Self-Summary

I like writing poetry, but only when I have other pressing things to do. I have difficulty finishing things...summarizing, rhyming. I really love gerunding, but typing about "myself" in a text box stresses me out...Nonsense listing calms me down a little. Colon, veggie burger, despot yellow-beard, dark noodle, microwave bubble-wrap, semi-comma, diva, flowers, flowers, flowers, your mom, bicycle feet, page breath, edible oedipal underwear, swift-footed hyphen. I love reading spam mail (spam backwards spells maps). As I kid I confused the words "Presbyterian" and "pedestrian" with disastrous results. I used to play the piano and I want to start again someday soon. And also I love punctuation

What I’m doing with my life

Hiding out in grad school. Reading literature. Learning languages (German and Turkish). Traveling as much as possible.

I’m really good at

punctuation; making fun of myself

The first things people usually notice about me

One of the first things my gender-pronoun-confused nephew observed of me is "Him's not a her, it's a Tristan!" That's probably the smartest thing anyone's ever said about me.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Music: Pinback, Broken Social Scene, Cut Copy, Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions, Neko Case, Doves, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Radiohead, Sage Francis, Built to Spill, Slowdive, Devil Makes Three, anything falsetto

Authors/Poets: Frank O'Hara, Peter Handke, Orhan Pamuk, Nazli Eray, e.e. cummings, Margaret Atwood, Barbara Kingsolver, V. Woolf, George Oppen, Susan Howe, Christa Wolf, Ingeborg Bachmann, Rilke, Cortazar, Gregory Maguire, Emine Sevgi Ozdamar, Derek Walcott, Nabokov, etc. Basically anything I can get my hands on, but mostly 20th century stuff. I particularly love magical realism, gratuitous fantasy, "bad translations," and any kind of poetry.

The six things I could never do without

1. irrational capitalization
2. Listing
3. Cheese
4. literature
5. puppies
6. Lying
7. trashy television shows

I spend a lot of time thinking about

ellipsis dots

On a typical Friday night I am

out with friends or sleeping

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
