My Self-Summary

Hey you! Welcome to my profile. I assume that by looking at this, it means that you actually want me to tell you something interesting about myself, right?

Well, I'd like to think that the rest of my profile will serve as my real self-summary, and I don't really like to brag about myself all that much. So instead of repeating everything again later on, I'm going to use this as a way to reveal a little something about myself that will make your profile viewing experience more pleasurable...

I'm a complete and total dork. And you'll probably notice that throughout this entire profile.

My sense of humor is best defined as wry and subtle, rather than obvious or laugh-out-loud (if you catch it, I applaud you). Most of the time if I get a little smirk or chuckle then I have done my job.

I also tend to ramble and talk a little more than is necessary sometimes, but when that doesn't get in the way or become annoying, it tends to complement my humor style fairly well. So it can be a double edged sword (ow!).

So, now that you've been debriefed about me, please make sure your seats have been reset in their upright position, take all your carry on luggage with you as you proceed, and enjoy your stay at my OkCupid profile.

What I’m doing with my life

I work at a local Performing Arts Center as a stagehand in the audio department, where I help set up and run the audio equipment for various shows that come through. Some of the awesomely cool things I get to do are things like hear the entire shows of Legally Blonde, Spamalot, and Avenue Q 8 times, and Wicked 24 times, but never get to see them....

I also fill the rest of my time interning at the local ESPN radio station, and helping TA for a ballroom dance class when I get a chance. "Why yes, I would love to dance with you! I'm so glad you asked."

I’m really good at

Compartmentalization. Not in a physical sense (although I am able to keep things fairly organized, too), but more in a mental sense. In other words, I am able to take my own perspective completely out of my thoughts, store it in it's own special little compartment in my brain, and look at something from an entirely different point of view. I've also come to realize recently that this is a skill that a good number of people don't seem to have, so I consider it a great skill to possess.

The first things people usually notice about me

People tend to complement me most about the funny, quirky t-shirts I tend to wear (e.g. one of my favorite shirts has a rhino, running on a treadmill, looking at a picture of a studly unicorn).

Although, for some reason, when I'm not wearing my glasses I tend to get a lot of complements on my eyelashes... so I guess those, too?

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Do you really wanna read this whole long list? It's really extensive, and rather boring, if I'm honest.... Alright, fine, OkCupid questionnaire! I'll indulge your request! But I'm warning you...

Books: Lately I've really been into reading interesting psychology/sociology books. (No, not textbooks... I didn't read those while in school. What makes you think I'd read them now?) What I'm talking about are books like The Tipping Point, Blink, and Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, and This is Your Brain on Music. I find them fascinating. The human mind is an amazing thing... Oh, you want to know about fiction books? Well, I'm a sucker for a good mystery/thriller, humorous stories like Hitchhiker's Guide, and well written character studies like Catcher in the Rye.

Movies: For some reason, I'm really attracted to dramas. You know, the types of movies that always get nominated for the Oscar? I'm not sure exactly why... Don't get me wrong, I love a good comedy (e.g. The Hangover), but the movies that I like best are the ones that make me think, or that are funny but not in an overtly obvious way.

Music: Here comes the big long, eclectic list (in no particular order)... The Beatles, John Mayer, Death Cab for Cutie, Muse, Coldplay, Michael Tolcher, Sara Bareilles, Timbaland, Outkast, Eminem, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, The King's Singers, The Killers, Queen, Blue Man Group, Rockapella, Linkin Park, Black Eyed Peas, Maroon 5, Ben Folds, Jack's Mannequin, The Fray, Dave Matthews Band, Norah Jones, Madeline Peyroux, Simon & Garfunkel, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Movie Soundtracks, Herbie Hancock, and Miles Davis. Lately I've also been really into new blues artists, as well as good ol' classic rock groups. Essentially, if it's good music, I'll probably enjoy it.

Food: If you're trying to get to my heart through my stomach, your best shot is with Italian food... I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

There. I answered what you asked, OkCupid! Happy now? I warned you it was long and boring, but noooooo. You HAD to know....

The six things I could never do without

Milk
Music
Variety
Interaction with people
Public innovation
And a physical body

I spend a lot of time thinking about

certain quotes that I tend to use at various times in my life to describe myself or my feelings. Here are a couple you might find interesting:

"Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about." - Oscar Wilde

"Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable." - Sidney J. Harris

"College is something you complete. Life is something you experience." - Jon Stewart

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." - Confucius

"Someday someone will walk into your life and make you realize why it never worked out with anyone else." - Anonymous

and finally...
"Life is like taking a crap. The big things come easy, but it's the little things that take all the work." - Anonymous

(side note: If Anonymous was just a single person, I would like to meet him/her. He/she always seems to have some really good quotes...)

On a typical Friday night I am

If I'm not working on a show at the theater (which I occasionally am, since it is a Friday night, and many times people schedule shows on days when other people are actually available to go see them), then I'm probably out hanging/dancing with my group of friends, or enjoying a relaxing night in, catching up on TV shows, chatting on facebook, reading, and sleeping (or falling asleep while reading and forgetting what I just read).

Now Thursdays, I'm practically always out dancing... unless I get the unfortunate assignment to work until after midnight. It's basically like a ritual for me and my group of friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

The toilet at my apartment is horrible! It's so bad that I've put a note on the wall behind it saying how much it sucks. But I'm starting doubt that it'll get into the psyche of the toilet and cause it to change any time soon...

You should message me if

You found my profile enjoyable enough to bite the bullet and send me a message. I promise, I don't shoot. I typically just hand you the bullet so you can bite it with no harm possible except maybe a chipped tooth or a dented bullet.
