My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Recovering stoic. Functionally independent while unabashedly compassionate. I give everyone a fair shake, I deserve one in return.

Here are some words, because this section is always difficult.

Deadpan. Brainstorm. Alcohol. Friends. Barbecue. Cats. Dogs. Board games. Tabletop games. Story time. Sci-fi. Fantasy. Social Commentary. Music. Shows.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working a bunch: I'm in the completely outlandish position of working in a software-related field at a tech company in the South Bay.

Traveling: All over New Zealand and Iceland, Munich, Prague, up and down England & Scotland, and more. There are stories to go with each, feel free to ask.

Creating: Specifically, books to write, and board games to test & publish!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
- Failing to recognize awkward moments. That was probably one, right there.
- Brainstorming. You know how Jupiter's Great Red Spot is a giant, permanent storm on the planet? It's kind of like that, but slightly less well-known, and less visible without using a telescope.
- Hugs, because I've heard it often enough.
- Doling out terrible, sarcastic advice.
- Getting stories out of people.
- Singing.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I get the sense that this isn't something people normally comment on, but people do tend to notice that I can be rather quiet. Sooner or later, they learn that this is because I like to be deliberate with what I say... or at least feel like I'm being deliberate. It comes and goes.

Physically, you'll have to tell me. My eyes are a mix of hazel and green, which does get noticed occasionally, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Speculative fiction (including the Sci-Fi & Fantasy genres) is my favorite, for so many reasons. (G.R.R Martin, Joe Abercrombie, Peter Watts, Frank Herbert). Also some "literature" (Cormac McCarthy, Albert Camus, Franz Kafka).

Music: A relatively wide variety. Post-rock, indie, metal, some electronic, classical, blues, hip hop, etc. I don't discriminate against bands that aren't Nickleback.

Shows: To everyone's inevitable surprise, the ones that everyone has said are great (Game of Thrones, True Detective, The Wire, Breaking Bad). Rick & Morty, Archer, Bojack, Silicon Valley.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Good beer.
The ability to count.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Cultural, biological, geological, social, and astronomical evolution. The panopticon. Cultural appropriation, misappropriation, & memetics.
And stuff. Mostly stuff.

Whether the sarcasm on this profile will register on people's sarcasm-meters.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Working, for most of it.

Then: Grabbing a drink with friends, seeing a show, at the gym, catching something on Netflix. Everybody says that there's no such thing as a 'typical Friday night,' but really, I've got some idea of what I like to do, and all it really takes is good company to make a good night, most times.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'd say that I'm afraid of how much I have in common with Ron Swanson, but that'd be a lie.

I'm kind of excited about that part.

Also, I don't like the idea of "guilty pleasures" - if I know that I like something, I'll own it.
