I am inquisitive, affectionate, and altruistic.

My Self-Summary

I am a senior in college, studying photography and computer science and trying not to let the Boston weather get me down. I love cars, computers, photography, gadgets, and listening to music. The first three of those hobbies are especially important to me; I have extensively modified my car and built computers, and religiously keep up to date on developments in all three areas. I also love the mountains, and am happiest when I'm around them and can take advantage of what they have to offer.

I tend to do nice things for people without asking for much in the way of reciprocation. My friends think they have debts of favors they need to return built up, but really, I just enjoy making people happy.

What I’m doing with my life

I'll probably go into IT, since I've been doing it for a while, enjoy it, and it's easy to get a good job doing it, but I dream of being a photographer for a car magazine. And I'd like to move out west, although inertia might just bring me back to Baltimore, which is where I grew up.

I recently realized that people might wonder why I'm 23 and yet still haven't graduated from college. Well, I wasn't ready for college the first time around and my schoolwork showed it, so I took a leave of absence, went back home for a couple of months, and then went out to Utah for a year as an Americorps VISTA and ran a computer refurbishing program. It was incredibly rewarding, and once I got out, I was much better prepared for college. By this point, though, I'm looking forward to graduating and going into the real world.

I’m really good at

Practical stuff. Academic pursuits aren't my forte (although I do well enough with them), but I can reformat a computer to get rid of viruses, or change the accessory drive belts in my car on the side of the road, or build a bed frame out of 2x4s. Yes, I have actually done all these things.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm tall, have a really deep voice, and smile and laugh a lot (but I'm not likely to make you laugh that much until I get to know you). I'm also generally somewhat quiet and not the best conversationalist until I get to know people, but once I'm comfortable with people, I open up a bit.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I like action movies. I also like movies that make you think, but one of my best friends has a stated preference against those, so I tend to just watch action movies.

I'm into progressive rock, new wave, alternative rock, techno, and a bit of pop and rap. My top 100 most played songs in iTunes include ones by Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, Tears For Fears, Peter Gabriel, The Police, Dire Straits, Sarah McLachlan, Bruce Hornsby, Sting, Matchbox 20, The Church, The Cars, Counting Crows, The Verve Pipe, and Ben Folds Five.

I love Mexican food, Thai food, pizza, subs, burgers, steak, most things with potatoes, and ice cream. The best way into my heart is a plate of steak, mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach.

I don't read a lot, but when I do it's likely to be sci-fi. I wish I could read more, but school ends up taking most of the time I would have used to do so. And I don't really watch TV at all, and haven't for around a decade. I don't inherently dislike it, it's just not really a priority.

The six things I could never do without

My Gmail/Gchat, my car (well, any car is fine), hot food, some good speakers/headphones and the music to go with them, room to breathe, companionship.

On a typical Friday night I am

Watching a movie, on my computer, in the photo lab, or out partying. Depends on my mood.

You should message me if

You'd like to get to know me better (wait, that was kind of obvious... but it pretty much sums it up).
