Simply put, I believe that life is a miraculous event that we are sharing, and I feel that living at this particular point in history is an amazing moment in the human evolution. Let me be clear: I have a deep spiritual resolve that IS the basis for my existence. I believe in God, one God that we are all derived from and intrinsically connected to inextricably. However, don't allow my contemplative and philosophical nature to mislead you into thinking that I don't live in the moment and love to have fun and laugh, because I definitely do! Most importantly, I reserve the right to contradict myself at any point in time and dismiss parts or the entirety of what I'm pontificating about in any given moment. In a nutshell; while I certainly take life very seriously, I don't always take my self seriously ;)
I was raised Greek Orthodox but don't particularly find religion in sync with my thoughts. In my mind, all religions are very similar in nature, and I can certainly respect that. For me, though, all fall a bit short, and I believe everyone has a unique path in life and must figure out what God is or isn't for themselves. I also have a background in the sciences which, for me, tends to support everything I believe rather than contradict or disparage it. I truly respect an individual's right to their own belief system whether it is based in religion, science, philosophy, doubt, non-belief, a combination, or otherwise.
I have a deep passion for combining creative and technical thinking in most facets of my life. My background is in landscape design/build and I find it to be extremely rewarding if not arduous at times! I love to come up with a design for clients, install their landscape, and then see the landscape transform over time as plants mature and the homeowners take ownership of the space. It's always an interesting phenomena for me to see the project start in my mind, become manifest by hands, to be relinquished in the end.
I am currently back in school pursuing a degree in architecture with one year left in the program. For me, it's a continuation of what I've been doing previously and a natural progression. I've always been fascinated with architecture and how it can characterize so many different aspects of civilization, culture, and technology. It's been equally challenging and rewarding being back in school at this age and also humbling. Most of my peers are young enough to be my children, haha.
Two other passions of mine are music and food; I've been a dedicated musician and songwriter for all of my adult life. I have played in bands in the past, and I have no doubt that I will grace a stage again at some point, but currently my priority has been school. I still use music as a very necessary outlet and vehicle of expression. For the most part, my deeper, more pensive, serious side is what comes out in my music. I've played many styles over the years but am mostly playing my acoustic guitar these days. It's just so simple and pure, I love it!
I also love to cook! Again, it's something that I enjoy and find to be therapeutic. I tend to eat pretty healthy, although I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but I have done both for extended periods in my life.
I love to be active and, admittedly, can be a bit of a narcissist at times! Jogging, hiking, isometrics, and soccer are particular physical activities that I enjoy. I've done some yoga in the past and am looking to get back into it this summer :)
