I am Loyal, Patient, and Kind.

My Self-Summary

Recently both of my parents were diagnosed with cancer. My mother is doing fairly well after some surgery but my dad isn't. I'm trying to spend as much time with him as I can before he dies, so I'm not looking to get into anything really time consuming right now. If you don't mind getting together a maximum of once a week for a while, and probably less than that, keep reading. If that's a problem try back later.

I have a dark, sarcastic sense of humor, and am a complete dork. In fact, I've been a dork most of my life. I'll often say things that are funny, but delivered in such a way that I get uncomfortable laughter.

When I was in school I traveled a lot both domestically and internationally. I think that the customs of foreign cultures are fascinating and I love learning about new peoples and places. I've been all over Europe, and spent a fair amount of time in Spain and Austria. If I had to pick somewhere to live other than California, it would probably be the southern coast of Spain, but I've seen enough of the world to know that I belong in the Bay Area.

I like walks on the beach, video games, new and exciting situations, and philosophy. I very much enjoy hearing ideas that differ from my own, and the logic that goes along with them. I have respect for people who stick to their guns, but even more for someone who is flexible enough to change their beliefs in the face of overwhelmingly contrary evidence. "Just because." is not an answer I ever want to hear.

I'm a firm believer in full disclosure. If there's something specific that you want to know, just ask. I'll probably tell you.

I'm an easy person to get along with, and an incurable hopeless romantic. I'm resolved to a life full of rapid heartbeats, chance meetings and instant friendships.

Pictures of me never look like me. I've confounded photographers since I was a small child. Someone once met me and repeatedly remarked that they were very pleasantly surprised. I choose to take this as a compliment. If you want a challenge you should try taking a picture of me that actually looks like me. I double dog dare you.

I've been on this site for a while now, and have met lots of interesting people. Some of them I even dated for long periods of time. One particularly lovely young woman I even lived with. I think it's a pretty good tool for meeting people since in today's hectic world there doesn't seem to be a lot of time or many good places for making new friends and meeting potential love interests. I've found the match and friendship percentages to be very reliable indicators.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm recovering from a fairly serious injury. I was hit by a car and left for dead on the side the road. I've had three surgeries to repair the damage so far, and I will probably need at least one more, though this will not be happening in the immediate future. Currently I do lots of physical therapy, and spend more time than I'd like sleeping.

Before that I worked in a plethora of fields. I've done work in custom systems design and integration for biotech research companies, been a systems admin for a failed internet social networking site, worked as a test engineer for a highly successful internet startup, ran my own consulting company building servers and workstations for higher order mathematics and probability generation in the financial sector, and even did stints in personal security and recovery (ask me about subduing someone who's hopped up on PCP).

For fun I like to go out to movies or plays, go for walks, people watch and get into mischief of all varieties. I still get around pretty well, but severely strenuous physical activity is still pretty much out of the question, so no more MMA or rock climbing for me.

When I'm at home I play video games and watch videos (hulu is my friend), or read (both books and web pages) and listen to music. I'm a very audio/visually oriented person.

I’m really good at

I am good with computers and other electronics. I am a very good cook. My knowledge of human physiology and pharmacology rivals that of most general practitioners. In the martial arts I've taken equal focus was placed on relieving pain as on inflicting it. I am very good with my hands. Read into that what you will.

I also have it from a reliable source that I'm a great big teddy bear who gives great hugs and functions as an above average pillow/snuggle buddy.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm really quite tall, though don't seem it from a distance. I look more or less average until I'm standing right next to you, then I block out the sun.

My size aside people often comment on my eyes. They're green with gold flecks and a bunch of other colors, and they change depending on my mood.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

The skinny:
I like most movies. Not so much musicals. I'll eat anything that will oblige me by standing still, but I prefer food from the ocean. It's a lesser miracle that I haven't died of mercury poisoning from all the sushi. Music is very important to me. I listen to anything that isn't country, and I probably don't read as much as I should. If you passionately love Supreme Beings of Leisure I don't need to know anything else about you; we should get married.

The painfully long, yet sadly incomplete list:
a.) Snow Crash, Ender's Game, Diamond Age, Stranger in a Strange Land, Prometheus Bound, Last Train to Alcatraz, Bill The Galactic Hero, The Stainless Steel Rat, Survivor, Fight Club, For Whom the Bell Tolls (Hemingway in general. "Why did the chicken cross the road?" "To die. Alone."), The Best of Bad Hemingway, The Crying of Lot 49, JOB (By Heinlein "A comedy of errors")...

b.) The Nightmare Before Christmas, Kite, Cowboy Bebop: Stairway to Heaven, Shawshank Redemption, Waking Life, The Iron Giant, Tombstone, Banlieue 13 (David Belle ), The Emperor's New Groove, The Matrix, Iron Monkey, Requiem for a Dream, se7en, I <3 Huckabees, Tom Yum Goong, Ong Bak ( Tony Jaa ), Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid.

c.) Pink Floyd, KMFDM, Jack Johnson, AC/DC, Guns 'n Roses, Massive Attack, Smoke City, Portishead, NIN, TOOL, Custom, Gracie Slick, Solomon Burke, Barry White, Nina Simone, Billie Holliday, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Neurosonic, The Postal Service, Iron and Wine, Gorillaz, Operatica, Hooverphonic, John Tejada, Electric President, Funkstar Deluxe....

d.) Sushi, Mexican, Cajun/Creole, California Cuisine, Indian, Thai, Vegetarian Specialty Foods (Though I am not a vegetarian), Garlic (Italian preference)...

The six things I could never do without

Purely physical answer:
1.) Oxytocin (Not oxycontin. Google it.) 2.) Dopamine 3.) Serotonin 4.) Adenosine Triphosphate 5.) A full spectrum multivitamin 6.) Pain killers

The things I'd rather not do without beyond a purely survivalist standpoint are:

1.)Music (to pass the silent times)
2.)Good food (to pass the hungry times)
3.)Lex (my cat, to pass the lonely times)
4.)Close friends (see above and below)
5.)Family (to catch me when I fall or to prevent the fall in advance)
6.)Love (or at least the potential for it inside myself and others)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The future. The socio-economic repercussions of the recent political climate. How things work, and how they could work better. Sometimes my brain will just go off on a tangent and I'll completely forget what I'm doing or where I am. Sometimes this happens when I'm walking, and I'll come to my senses in a back alley somewhere in Atlantic City with no pants and $20 in my shirt pocket.

On a typical Friday night I am

"Announcing your plans is a good way to hear God laugh." Bonus points if you know the amazing show that quote came from.

My typical Friday night is just like all the other nights. I'm pretty low key and left to my own devices I'm just as happy sitting at home listening to music and playing video games/watching movies as I am at a party with friends. I don't really drink (though it has been known to happen from time to time) so bars don't hold much appeal, though a nice quiet lounge or speakeasy would be a great place to spend some free time and make new friends. I'd much rather sit and talk to someone than yell at them over pumping house music drowning out three of every four words.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Due to an overly active early life, I can honestly say I've been shot at, stabbed, electrocuted, poisoned, welded to sheet metal, blown up, pushed off a cliff, fallen off a building, hit by a baseball bat, set on fire, broken almost every bone in my body, and been hit by a car (on more than one occasion).

I was also in a serious relationship for just over seven years which, sadly, ended in 2004. (Read: No fear of commitment.)

And given the chance, and I'd probably do it all over again. Made for a hell of a life, and some amazing stories.

You should message me if

You're looking for a new friend or a partner in crime, or if you're tall and dark or red-headed (or have green eyes and freckles) though this is a physical preference and not a requirement. I get along best with people who most would describe as "awkward" "quirky" or "unusual". I like those who are happy, and acknowledge that the journey isn't over once you're happy, but just getting interesting.

You should also not be squeamish about scars, and like cats.
