My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Ever want to chuck it all and just drive around the country for a while?

Sounded like a good idea to me, too. So I did it. Stuff is in storage back in California, and I'm on the road, visiting family and friends in Ohio at the moment. And hey, I figure why not meet a couple new people while I'm here, eh?

I've lived abroad and in the suburbs of the midwest, but I think of the west coast as home. I'm an introvert but can pass as a people-person. I love my family and friends, but also need quiet time away from them. I think a lot. I cook. I love to explore and try new things. I start far too many conversations with "So, I read this article... "

Life is full of fascinating things. People are full of contradictions. Words can so rarely capture the spirit of anyone. Though the right picture is worth far, far more than a thousand words.

I tend toward a rationalist, scientific perspective - Spock is one of my heroes. But I try very hard to not lose touch with empathy and a sense for how other people see things (Dr. McCoy is another of my heroes). (I watched a lot of Star Trek reruns growing up... still do. It's cheesy-fun, yes? :D )

I believe firmly in random acts of kindness. I try very hard to spend the extra money I earn on making my life, my family's lives, and my friends' lives better.

Also - I'm really, really allergic to cats. They're deal-breakers, which makes me sad. They're quite cute. It's just that I can't breathe when they're around. Boo.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Seeing this country of ours! I've put ~6k miles on the car in the last 3 months, driven from California to Ohio... and I'm plotting my next steps now. South, perhaps? Who knows...

When not travelling I'm always learning. I've studied computers, religion, wine, photography and am now onto cooking and fitness. People are a constant source of new discoveries.

Spending time with my family and friends as I can.

Looking for a partner - someone to explore this grand world with.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Walking and chewing bubble gum.
Randomly meandering conversations.
Baking, cooking... making a delicious mess in the kitchen.
Listening & learning.

Far too much to get into here. Music tends toward heavy metal but is always about mood - sometimes Beethoven fits the mood, sometimes Black Sabbath. (Something about loud, fast music energizes me.)

I listen to podcasts more than I watch TV but when I do it tends toward Sci-Fi or Sci-Fact. Strangely, the podcasts follow suit - lots of sciency stuff, some comedy. The Bugle? Oh yes, please!

I play video games when I'm not making them (it's my job - really). Though I may not be what most people would think of as a "Gamer".

Food is way too broad a subject for a short paragraph! I love cooking and have gotten a lot of practice lately. I wish there was a place where people could meet and cook for each other... Hmmm... wonder if I can get startup funding...
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
New ideas, people that make me think, a stove, wine, music, some problem or another to try and figure out. Getting out. Staying in. Touch. Counting to 6 and not stopping there...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Why people do the things they do. Random puzzles - what are the odds of finding duplicate characters on a license plate? How best to not lose one's keys. How to navigate this life in a humane and moral way. What exactly is souffle? Why do the proportions of radio isotopes start at set amounts that we can use to date really old things? Why is it good to have some "awe", but not good to be full of it?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
It's hard to say what a typical Friday, or any day, is for me these days. On the road and my time is very non-regular. Last week I went to Cincinnati to visit some friends. The week before I was in Cleveland, before that at Bingo with my mom (hey, I'd never been - it was an experience, that's for sure). Next week... not sure yet. May be unwinding after a day of exploring and driving around the state? Maybe on a date with you? Hmmm
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I once lied about the most private thing I was willing to admit in an online form...

You're curious. About me, about the world. You've thought geeks were cool since before it was cool to think anything was cool before everyone else.

You parsed that sentence.
You don't mind that I use words like "parse" in normal parlance.
