I am brilliant, hilarious, and modest. Heh..

My Self-Summary

Left to my own devices, I sit on the grass at the park in the sunshine with a book, or laugh with friends at a bar or in someone's living room, or go out to breakfast, or walk and wander and explore, possibly striking up conversation with strangers. Or, looking back to college, teach a room full of frat boys about safer sex. I love to do more adventuresome things, but I seldom initiate them (spending a summer in Africa a notable exception). Hiking Mt. Whitney, visiting Peru... None of them my idea, but I loved every minute.

I love to eat-- everything is so delicious! I'm pretty sure I'm solar powered. I make up my own word when there isn't one available that suits me. For reasons unrelated to weight loss (I'm actually rather small), I'm inspired by the opening song of "The Biggest Loser"-- the lyric is "what have you done today to make you feel proud?"... It seems a good life philosophy.

What I’m doing with my life

I work in public health, on a project to improve healthcare quality. It's a new focus for me, after years working in HIV services... It's interesting so far, even as I'm experiencing a bit of an identity crisis.

I’m really good at

Cracking myself up (and sometimes other people, too)
Making mashed potatoes
Spelling
Sleeping on airplanes
Remembering names
Snuggling

The first things people usually notice about me

My smile

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

The Catcher in the Rye and A Prayer for Owen Meany; The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Out of Sight (among others); I love many kinds of music and most foods (I have a particular fondness for avocado. And sushi. And Italian. And... Okay, most foods).

The six things I could never do without

Conversation
Iced tea
Yummy food
Snuggling
Sunshine
Laughter

I spend a lot of time thinking about

This question sounds like "what do you obsess over?" and that makes me hesitant to answer it. With that disclaimer, I tend to think about how to make the world a better place, and myself a better person.

On a typical Friday night I am

Somewhere having fun with friends, or at home, nesting in my recently-purchased (and renovated!) condo.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I will scrutinize your profile for improper spelling and grammar and judge you accordingly.

You should message me if

You are a good-lookin', fun, smart, socially conscious fella who likes to goof around, but also enjoys below-the-surface conversation and can be a grown-up when the situation calls for it... A guy who likes my strength and independence, but will also let me be vulnerable... A guy who's social, also enjoys chill one-on-one time (and isn't weirded out by the fact that I've mentioned snuggling twice above). A guy who doesn't mind my excessive use of parentheses. I want to find someone who's man enough to deal with the tough stuff life can sometimes throw at us, yet is kid enough to, say, give me a piggy-back ride (don't worry-- I'm very light!)
