My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm an actor and variety arts performer who does goofy things for a living and takes them all seriously. I've toured across North America several times and absolutely love the travel aspect of the job.

I'm a pretty easy-going person; I really can't be offended by anything except willful ignorance. I think that curiosity makes the world a better place and therefore am up for just about anything. All this doesn't mean that I'm not passionate about certain things: cooking and cocktails, recycling, science education...an eclectic mix of issues.

I love nothing more than being blown away by live shows; creative storytelling in any form is beautiful. Seeking these stories out takes me to live music shows, theater, dance recitals, gallery openings, chef's tastings, sporting events (Sporting KC & Royals especially) and any other place something interesting has a chance of happening.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm getting back to performing full time which might mean going back out on the road occasionally. I spent the last few years on an unfortunate detour, making craft cocktails and serving specialty beers. Don't get me wrong; I loved it for the most part. But life has reminded me that food and drink should be a hobby and I really should spend my time performing.

The happiest years of my life were spent on stage and I drifted from that in pursuit of "stability". Lesson learned; pursue happiness and stability will tag along (sometimes a little farther back than you would like, but it'll be there).
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
making people laugh (professionally and casually)
table tennis
crossword puzzles & scrabble
working with children
making a Singapore Sling and other tasty things
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Many people say I'm aloof or standoffish. I can see that, but it doesn't stem from wanting to be apart, but rather the fact that I usually want as much info as possible at all times. Second impressions would be better for me: after spending a little time analyzing a situation I'll wade in anywhere. I love people, all sorts, and have always been able to chat and run with all of them. I'm lucky in that--I've met a lot of interesting people.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I love music in general. Though I don't listen to a lot of country, I don't mind it. My iPhone contains blues, classical, chant, rockabilly, jazz, new age, metal, gospel, punk, you name it.

I've been on a Red Line Chemistry kick lately, great Kansas City hard rock band. Also, Amber Rubarth in the singer/songwriter vein.

Haven't been watching much TV, but I do like Burn Notice, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and the odd Science Channel marathon.

Favorite authors/books: "The Years of Rice and Salt" by Kim Stanley Robinson, "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card, the poetry of Naomi Shihab Nye, "What's the Matter with Kansas?", almost any popular or more difficult book on cosmology, Steve Martin's memoire "Born Standing Up".

Love food. Period. In moderation, of course!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Not necessarily in this order:

Juggling equipment
the next stage
a good fedora
someone who smiles every time I perform (deserving or not)
knowledge of the past
friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The next show I should write. An unbelievable amount of time actually, since I only come up with enough good ideas for a couple minutes at a time. I wish I was a better writer.

I guess if there's another topic that gets more time than others it would be politics. I mean the actual policy aspect of it (you know, the part that our politicians have forgotten). I try to get involved in city issues and sometimes bigger ones as well. Not so much as it consumes all my time but when I think something is important I like to get involved.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
On stage doing a show until 10:00pm or so. A drink with the cast is a common happening afterwards. Or sometimes it's home to get some work done or sleepy time depending on what Saturday holds in store.
