I am artistic, sarcastic, and absurdly unconvinced.
My Self-Summary
...sounds and textures and laughter and confusion and theories and
shapes and tones and organics and the wild and absurd stupid stuff
sprinkled with a pinch of seriousness...
I think helping others, especially the less fortunate, is very
important though I should probably do much more. I have worked in
public health for years, though my current job is pretty bland
comparatively. I have enviromental concerns, and I am interested in
strategies of being less wastefully and more minimal. I like
cooking with new methods and ingredients, especially weird veggies
that I've never tried before. I am an introvert by phychological
standards, though I am also skeptical of putting too much stock in
such broad terms and categories.
I enjoy art, especially experimental/improvised/avant
garde/abstract/whatever (sound, sculpture, collage, juxtapositions,
photography, installations, multi-media, painting, video, junk
piles, textures, odd placements, absurdities, the brilliantly
stupid, etc.) I create art as well; varied pieces that may or may
not be described above in such catchy terms and genre names. I also
perform music, usually referred to as experimental noise. Sometimes
I perform live in public.
I like wondering around thrift stores. I like being outside, in the
woods away from car sounds and people chatter and the daily grind.
I like walking my dog. I like watching my cat wrestle with a tennis
ball. I like eating wild berries picked directly off the plant. I
like pondering existence and various philosophical topics without
getting too bogged down in who said what and the isms, ics, and
ists... and sometimes I just like to sit back and laugh at it
all...
What I’m doing with my life
art, music, hiking, laughing, walking, looking, thinking,
wondering, dreaming, not knowing for sure, etc.
I’m really good at
avoiding questions about "what I'm really good at."
The first things people usually notice about me
uhhh... smile? dimples? the large avalanche unknowingly occuring
behind me?
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Lately I've been reading various vegetarian cookbooks and books on
house plants obtained from thrift stores. But I also enjoy books on
nature/animals/biology/evolution, etc. as well as Philosophy and
various fiction, poetry, abstract cut-up... and random stuff like
The Hatless Man by Sarah Kortum.
Movies: Rear Window, Pi, 2001, Inland Empire, Two or Three Things I
Know About Her, Barfly, Grunt, Raising Arizona, Harold and Maude,
The Lives of Others, Millennium, Network, The Corndog Man, The
Incredible Melting Man, Cannibal The Musical, The Jerk, Secretary,
Pink Flamengos, Gummo, The Wrestler, etc.
Music: can't go wrong with almost anything by the Sun City Girls,
the Cosmic Slop album by Funkadelic, various interesting noise,
interesting drone, thick and subtly morphing ambience, folk, old
country, free rock and jazz, tribal sounds of the past and strange
incarnations in the present, enviromental field recordings, improv,
avant-garde, electronic spazz, spontaneous spew, absurd goofy
shit... and sometimes (when drinking) stupid sentimental stuff like
Kenny Rogers or Neil Diamond... oh, and lots of scratchy thrift
store albums of random styles...
Food: mostly vegetarian, and some seafood in moderation. Especially
interested in trying new veggies that have yet to stimulate my
taste buds. I also love spicey food Mexican, Indian, Thai, etc. and
various hybrids. I like experimenting in the kitchen...
The six things I could never do without
I am a spoiled American with all basic needs met, so I kinda feel a
bit awkward making a list like this but, here goes...
The desire to constantly question things
The wild
Art
My friends and family
Passion
Laughter
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Existence, the creative process, traveling, passion, and the
absurdity of it all...
On a typical Friday night I am
catching a good show, drinking some beers, making some sort of art,
walking in circles, clueless...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I have way too many cheesy nicknames for my dog and cat...
