Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Grew up in Eugene, Oregon amidst hippies and loggers. Both have
influenced me. Spent my college years in Portland, and now have
wound up in the Bay Area for graduate school, though am also
spending a fair amount of time in the rainforests of Costa
I am halfway through a ph.d. program at stanford for ecology and
evolution. Needless to say I love biology and the intricacies of
Earth's life. I also really like languages, though I don't think
I'm particularly good at learning them.
My favorite activities include hiking and camping. I'll take pretty
much any excuse to spend sometime outdoors. Partially it's just
nice to get out of the city and have some time to reflect about all
the things that are really important in life.
People have described me as thoughtful. I generally trend towards
the introverted side of the personality spectrum. My humor is
generally sarcastic, but doesn't come out until people get to know
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Trying to spend as much time galavanting around the tropics of
Costa Rica as possible, making friends with various amphibians and
reptiles--less the cute fuzzy things on account of the rabies.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Sense of direction. I haven't gotten lost and died in the

Dharma bums. Jack Kerouac. One of the few books i've read
repeatedly. Wouldn't exactly say that it changes my life everytime
I read it, but something close to that.
The Glass Bead Game. Herman Hesse. This is one of those dreadfully
boring books that never the less left an impression.
The Huainanzi. You shouldn't ask... but if you must know it's a
syncretic Daoist text from ~200 bc, attempting to amass all
important knowledge at the time from how the universe began, to how
seasons work, to how one should rule a state. Good times... no,
Shows: Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Game of Thrones,
Music: Metric, Philip Glass (Metamorphosis), any of whatever is on
the top 40 pop songs (my guilty pleasure is trashy pop music)
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
--Clouds (growing up in Oregon you learn to appreciate the myriad
shades of grey that clouds can take, and how beautiful they can
--Cooking (cooking with friends is even better)
--Physical activity (I practice capoeira, which is awesome, dabbled
in boxing, and run pretty frequently.)
--Plants. I have an absurd collection of plants that people have
given me over the years. Somehow I seem to be good at keeping them
alive so they just keep accumulating.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How to be more awesome.
Short term goal is running a marathon (just completed a half, so a
full one is only two of those and therefore easy right...?)
Long term goals include bringing either a mammoth, wholly
rhinoceros, or ground sloth back to life through the magic of
cloning. And/Or developing and marketing GFP houseplants to ravers.
Whichever comes first...
