My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Born abroad and far away, grew up there, moved here, then found a career in a dying industry. Went solo and working it out daily. Frequent flyer with itchy feet (not literally. That would be nasty).
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Editing a left-of-center travel magazine, while contributing as a creative director to a host of other slightly more financially rewarding enterprises. Voyages are part of the equation, fulfilling the fantasy of existing elsewhere while still remaining connected to our fair city. Days off spent ambling, evenings carousing. Wish flâneur was a career description.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Creating follies
Reverse engineering

I'm foreign, often mistaken for haughty.

Have enjoyed Mishima, Updike, Pessoa. Discovered Mavis Gallant and then fell in love. Did like that perennial favourite, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Calvino's great, Waugh makes me chortle. Recently enjoyed The Flamethrowers immensely. Currently dipping into Yan Liangke's latest. Have a Mexican crime fiction novel up next. The list goes on and on.

Aki Kaurismaki films. I tend to like more independent areas of film, but when pressed, a good blockbuster often hits the spot.

TV's rather obvious—comedies á la 30 Rock, Thick of It, Curb Your Enthusiasm etc.; drama in the vein of The Wire; and the occasional guilty pleasure of watching Bourdain yuck it up around the globe. One of those people who doesn't have a television.

Music wise, Pulp is up there next to Pavement. Often dip backwards into Bowie, Iggy; Occasionally indulge in synth cheese.

When it comes to food, thoroughly omnivorous. Comes with the job...
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Sympathetic collaborators
A bicycle in the fairer months
A notebook brimming with to-dos
A stash of wine for the apocalypse
A source of entertainment
Multiple museum memberships
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Impossible ideas and how to implement them. Whether a few months in Mexico City might be just what the doctor ordered. If "has a cat" is a pro or a con.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

That LA might be where it's at.

You care about football (the helmet and oblong ball kind) as much as I do. Which is to say, not at all.
