My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a fairly low-key guy. It's rare for me to get visibly excited about something (although it does happen). I tend not to get upset too easy, and I don't hold grudges. I'm honest to a fault.

I have a degree in Photography, although I don't make anywhere near as much use of it as I should. My username is actually a type of film, and was a nickname I got stuck with in college (because it's somewhat similar to my actual name).

I collect and play modern board and card games. The majority of my friends I know from various gaming groups I've been a part of. My roommate and I host a fairly large group of players on a regular basis.

I'm not really the type to go to bars or clubs. I don't drink. I've never cared for the taste, and I'm not particularly interested in getting drunk. Not that I have any problem with other people drinking, although if you're the type who feels you need to get wasted to have a good time we're probably not going to have a lot in common. I'm perfectly happy to be the designated driver.

I love going to see live music when I can. I often will try (only occasionally successfully) to drag friends to go see bands when they're in town, but if I can't get anyone else to go along I'll often still go by myself. I especially like going to see shows at the High Noon, as they tend to get a lot of decent bands and tickets are cheap.

I tend to watch TV and Movies socially, and only rarely by myself. If I have a show I'm interested in watching, I usually try to find a friend who's also interested in it to watch it with, because otherwise I'll just put it off indefinitely.

Here's a bit that probably scares a lot of people off: I have a four-year-old son. He's fantastic and is an important part of my life, but I only have him a little less than a third of the time. What this means in practical terms is that I'm busy on a regular (and scheduled) basis, but often looking for things to do when I don't have him.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I generally tell people I'm a graphic designer, but I wear too many hats to really put a label on what I do. Photography, video editing, web development, whatever really needs to be done honestly.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
...picking up the basics of things quickly. I've always been a quick learner, although it's rare for me to ever become truly "great" at something.

I think that's one of the reasons I enjoy playing board games as much as I do. Each game is a new set of skills to learn.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
...are probably my height and weight. I get lots of comments about how tall I am, or how skinny I am. Apparently I look taller than I actually am, because people are often surprised when I tell them I'm "only" 6'2".

I generally try to dress nicer than average, although not ostentatiously. I haven't worn a graphic tee in several years.

A lot of the books I read tend to be Sci Fi or Fantasy, and I don't read anywhere near as often as I'd like to. I'm accepting recommendations.

I tend to like movies that are a bit surrealist or bizarre. Films Netflix would describe as "Visually Striking" or "Mindbending." Some of my favorites include The City of Lost Children, Amélie, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Hudsucker Proxy, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Fight Club, Moulin Rouge, Memento, and Inception. I'm also a sucker for less serious adventure, sci-fi, comedy, etc.. Films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ocean's Eleven, and The Fifth Element. I will discuss at length subjects such as why Deckard being a replicant ruins Blade Runner, how the Matrix ruined action movies until The Bourne Identity saved them, or the difference between a "good" movie and an "awesome" movie.

For TV, I'm a fan of Arrested Development, Community, Parks & Recreation, The Venture Bros., M*A*S*H, and any of Joss Whedon's shows. At some point I need to finish watching Twin Peaks. I watch and enjoy Archer, although I'm slightly ashamed to admit it. I'm not big on watching shows as they air. Usually I'll either wait for the show to come out on DVD.

I listen to a lot of music, in a large variety of genres. A lot of Rock and Post-Rock, and some stuff that's just hard to classify. My friends have learned to either embrace or tolerate my love of Man Man. I find that my favorite song on every album is the 8+ minute long epic that never gets radio play.

Just picking out a few of my favorite artists as I scroll through my music library: The Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles, CAKE, David Bowie, The Decemberists, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Jethro Tull, Jonathan Coulton, Man Man, Man or Astro-Man?, Modest Mouse, Mogwai, My Brightest Diamond, Neutral Milk Hotel, Nine Inch Nails, Pixies, Porcupine Tree, Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, The Rosebuds, Spoon, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, The Toadies, Tom Waits, White Rabbits.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
...ideally spending time with friends. Recently I've been generally playing board games with some people my roommate knows.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have something of a phobia of calling people on the phone. Not of answering the phone, nor of talking to people on the phone. Just the calling part. There's something about not knowing for certain who is going to answer that bothers me for some reason. As such I'm much better with calling cell phones than land lines.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.'re ok with kids, but that's not why you're messaging me. I'm looking for a date, not a replacement mom for my son. I'm generally busy any time I have him. Most of my friends have met him once or never. The last person I dated I was seeing for several months, and she never actually met him. live in Madison, or intend on living here in the near future. If you're outside the area you're welcome to say "hi," but please don't be offended if I don't message you back. (In fact, please don't be offended if I don't message you back even if you are in Madison.)
