Have you ever wondered...
Jan 16, 2011
...why you're on OkCupid?
I've actually begun to wonder that lately. I've read the success stories and I'm just not having anything near that level of success. There are long periods where I simply receive no replies to messages nor to IMs. I've met a grand total of three people IRL from here over the course of the years I've been on here, including the time I had my previous username, and none have resulted in a relationship or anything past the first date. (The exception to the latter being the first person I met, which ended pretty badly and is a long story in itself.)
I'm definitely not "desperate", or at least try not to be, but maybe it's time to refocus and work on other parts of my life. What are your thoughts, OKC peoples?

Gay Mainers, I'm sorry that 52% of people are bigoted idiots and/or were misled into stripping your rights. I definitely would have voted No if I lived there. :(
Hopefully DOMA will get repealed/struck down during Obama's term. Not that this is of any consolation to you right now, but yeah. :/
Cooking Log, part 1
Nov 3, 2009
This weekend, I cooked Halloween dinner for about 15 people at a party that I had. It was a hybrid potluck/me cooking for everyone type deal:
What I cooked:
- Chicken fettuccine alfredo
- (partially* with homemade fettuccine pasta--yay, pasta machines)
- Vegetarian: potato casserole
What others brought:
- Desserts/drinks
- Salad: pasta salad
- Side: lemon couscous
*it was obvious that I wouldn't be able to make enough noodles for 15 people in time; I had started two hours before the start time for the dinner and barely got through 4 servings' worth before people started showing up. Then again, it was my first time actually using my pasta maker correctly, and ran into some issues during the process. :)
Stuff learned:
- Start sooner. I probably would have done well with doing noodles 5-6 hours beforehand, perhaps as far in advance as the day before.
- Even with the issues and length of time, homemade noodles taste better than even the "fresh" stuff in the store, although this may be recipe dependent. I probably wouldn't make homemade noodles all the time, though, unless I had a much faster way to make them. Perhaps using the KitchenAid/Cuisinart pasta attachments will help.
- Use simpler recipes. Last month's BBQ was successful because it didn't take 1 hour per dish (!) to make.
Stuff to try:
- Whole wheat pasta.
- Making some sort of red sauce.
I think I'm liking cooking for large groups. (I've currently been doing this approximately once a month since September.) What recommendations do you guys have for November/December's? Does my post make your stomach growl? ;)
