My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
EDIT (6/14/15): Let's get spicy red beans and rice at Easy Creole, and then sample the brews at Hoi Polloi. Or restaurant-and-bar hop on Telegraph Avenue in Uptown Oakland?

EDIT: Coffee dates are well and good, but I'd love to do something more adventuresome and revealing than sitting and talking about ourselves. I want to camp out at Drawbridge, the ghost town in the South Bay, and attend the biweekly square dance at the Niebyl-Proctor Marxist Library on Telegraph. I want to bar-hop in downtown Oakland after work. Let's get bagels before work, let's go sailing! Let's go to a secret underground party, or chill at Archimedes Banya on a rainy day. Do you know a speakeasy diner? How about a Sunday morning Thai Temple brunch? Or let's just chill in bed and watch Broad City, Girls, or House of Cards. Or, you know, coffee is good too.

EDIT(2/1/15): I moved to Berkeley today into an AMAZING house in the Lorin district (read: near Ashby BART). Wanna help me explore the neighborhood? So many new restaurants and bars to try!

EDIT(11/3/14): Hey, I just moved to San Francisco (from Germany!) and am super excited to explore the area. I'm from California originally, but I've been away a long time. I have a small dog and would love to get out and explore the local parks and trails. Living in the Mission, looking for partners in adventure. Also, eating the delicious food that abounds here.

Der Sommer ist die schönste Tag des Jahres! My favorite things are hanging out at a cafe on Limmerstrasse, or whiling away the warm summer weekends at the "beach" of the Altes Contigelände, swimming in the canal, enjoying a bottle of wine, going to shows at the Feinkost Lampe, taking photos, planning travels and doing math and physics. I'm only in Germany for a few more months before I move to San Francisco. Let's hang out!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I can't tell you how happy I am to be back in the Bay Area after a decade of venturing the wilderness, in upstate New York and south Louisiana and northern Germany. "What am I doing with my life?" Up till now, a lot of science - I was a physicist - now applying physics and engineering to hopefully improve life on earth. While enjoying life on earth! Sailing and flying and hiking and biking and seeking out secret swimming holes on hot summer days and the best hole-in-the-wall padh kee mao on hot summer nights. Dating is fun but I'm looking for a serious partner too.

My dream for retirement is to start a hostel in the desert, in Lone Pine CA, hosting backpackers and travlers, while maybe simultaneously working as a bush pilot and flight instructor on the side. Or maybe opening a Japanese style hostel/spa here in Berkeley?
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Honestly? MATLAB.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I enjoy cooking with friends, or for friends, in a big group if possible. I love it when cooking is a project, to make something I've never made before. But if it's just me, I'll just eat tortillas and miso. I like to read bad travelogues from the public library, and I like to read physics. Most movies are a waste of time, but good ones are precious. I love good radio, and listen to This American Life whenever possible. My current favorite podcast is 99% Invisible. I keep a bottle of Tabasco in the car for hot sauce emergencies.

Some favorite books: All the King's Men, The Control of Nature (really, almost anything by John McPhee), The Sun Also Rises, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Murakami, the Botany of Desire.

Recent favorite films: Searching for Sugar Man, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Gravity.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Instead let's pretend the question is, "what are some adventures you want to undertake in the next few years?"

* Hitchhike the Icelandic Ring Road
* Learn to ski
* Visit the Saline Valley hot spring in Death Valley CA
* Hike across the Alps
* Fly a small airplane across the United States
* Drive the Mojave Road in a jeep
* Take a one-week paragliding course in Slovenia
* Make weekend trips to cool European cities
* Island-hop in the Azores or Cape Verde
* Chill out in Spain
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
