Born and raised in and around Chicago, but much of my more Yankee side has softened - Nashville has been my home for the last 25 years. I still go back several times a year and love my city even more as a tourist.
Cubs fan still . That may say something about me.
I've been on here a few weeks now, and it seems that many men are not reading down very far, so I am going to place this next part closer to the top. Please read, because this is important to me:
You are someone who can hold his own in a conversation, who can listen as well as offer an opinion, who feels a genuine sense of responsibility for improving the world in some way. You care enough about your appearance to stay fit and healthy. You have some energy and like to get out sometimes--to hear music, or take a walk or see a movie. Ideally, you like to travel. Though you can't tell everything about a person from a few pictures and a paragraph, I can say that pictures of you with your motorcycle or car, or blurry selfies in the bathroom are a turnoff to me. And I do not want to see pictures of you in various states of undress when I haven't even met you! I'm not looking for someone just like me, but we have to be able to meet in the middle, right?
I adore my job as a teacher and equally treasure my summers off. Usually I travel some internationally every year-- currently planning a trip to Spain and Portugal next spring. I suppose I have seen more of the world than many, but I feel like I am just getting started. My biggest thrill is going somewhere I have never been, not knowing what it will be like. I am a very active person, both physically and intellectually. I love live music, and usually go out several times a week to hear it. My Ipod holds everything from Maclemore to The Gypsy Kings. I love to cook, hike, dance, travel, read and do things I've never done before. Finding someone who shares my passion for travel would be wonderful, but I would also be happy with someone who could teach me to love something I haven't yet thought of.
Did you get this far?NPR, documentaries, foreign films, the Belcourt, languages,Americana music, volunteering, dogs, chameleons, the New York Times, sleeping late, good coffee, chocolate almonds, Malbec, wood furniture, Downton Abbey, Modern Family, Frontline, StoryCorps, Pitbull, sundresses, waterfalls, zipl-ining, hang-gliding, the Pacific Northwest, autumn, bonfires, sushi, zumba, southern fiction, outdoor music, Irish whiskey, trains, hugs, letters, salsa, meeting new people.....
Cracks me up: Amy Poehler, David Sedaris, Stephen Colbert, laughing babies, surprising wit , Modern Family, Calvin and Hobbes, my kids.
Makes me cry: "Life is Beautiful," Alison Krauss, mandolins,"Beyond the Beautiful Forever," young people dancing, dreams about loss, commercials calculated to do exactly that, my kids.
Like so many others on here, my nest will soon be empty, and I find myself thinking about the next stage, and who I'd like to spend it with. I am definitely looking for a man around my own age who is looking for a woman around HIS age. I take excellent care of myself, and would hope you do too. I really love great conversation over a bottle of wine, about politics, music, life in general. I would love to learn a new sport and pick up a hobby I have never considered. I am an excellent cook, and get great pleasure making wonderful meals for people I love. I am not afraid to show my feelings, and I would much prefer to ask a direct question rather than stew over a concern.
Ideally, I am looking for someone who lives within "meeting " distance, but have started considering the possibility of leaving Nashville in the next couple of years. So, maybe you are farther out there than I realize?
I was married for 20 years, and I know what it takes to maintain love, respect and fun in a relationship.
