I moved here to be able to live more in and among people, with the post-semi-stability goal of working with homeless/underprivileged youth. I want to combine my love of/need for art and my deep well of energy for loving high-needs people. I've spent much of this year also establishing a basic art business and re-learning my voice, both in interpersonal interactions and my art. I'm learning how to express my faith and belief structure in a dramatically new climate-- How to live the reality that my beliefs are not apron-string-midwest-farmer-assumptions, but something which I have struggled with, studied, unpacked, opened up, feared, hated, loved, lived by in a very real, dark, broken but beautiful world... though other than that, the transition has been amazingly seamless. I think I was born to live among ferns and fish. Feeling so at peace and at home.
If terms like "CCM" and "Promise keepers" are familiar to you, and make you want to rage stomp, we probably have things in common. Though "church" and I have some pretty deep issues, a story I'm still working on telling, I am guided by and passionate about my faith, which is a Christ-based living thing, growing and evolving as more life comes my way. There's an energy that resonates between people who share this, an intimacy, and that's vital to me. I don't make much sense outside that context, to be honest. Not to assert I make much sense within it either. *smile*
Current favorites: Imelda May, Eliza Rickman, Nirvana, Woven Hand/ 16 Horsepower, Hugh Laurie, Joy Electric, Over The Rhine, Arcade Fire, Depeche Mode, Celldweller, The Nightwatchman, Cash, Cohen, Rackets and Drapes, Tom Waits, VNV Nations, and a solid mix of old school Goth/Industrial and anything from the Supernatural (TV) soundtrack.
Books... Ah, books. Authors include: Terry Pratchett, Dave Mckean, Neil Gaiman, Shane Claiborne, C.S. Lewis (oldie but goodie)-- OHMYGOSH _Perelandra_, and I don't even know. I've spent my entire life reading ravenously and drawing a blank when asked. But if I have to choose between conversation and reading, it'd have to be a pretty boring conversation to lose. I'll improve this list after more thought.
Movies: Snatch, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Matrix, Batman Begins, Hot Fuzz, Princess Bride, Monty Python's Holy Grail, Waking Life, Mirror Mask, Stardust, Serenity, all things Depp, the original Willie Wonka, Disney's animal Robin Hood, then all the other Robin Hood movies, Repo-a Genetic Rock Opera, Reign Of Fire-- I've seen, and loved, a LOT of movies to be honest.
Shows: Supernatural, Firefly, Breaking Bad, Community, IT Crowd, Better Off Tedd, Sherlock, Dr. Who, Star Trek (OS), MST3K, NCIS (because ABBY! And no I'm not a middle aged mom), HIMYM, 30 Rock, X Files, House... I didn't watch TV as a kid, I've made up for lost time. You name it, I've probably seen it or know of it at least. NETFLIX WHY YOU RUIN MY LIFE??
