My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
After spending 10 years as a German car mechanic, dutifully following the bouncing ball of school-career-promotion-money-etc., I came to the realization that none of that was actually making me happy. So, I said "to hell with it" and got rid of most of my crap, and hit the road. As I'm writing this, I'm about three months into traveling. I started in Spain, then on to Portugal, and in a few days I go to Romania. I'm not sure when I'll be back in the US, so at this point I'm mostly looking to chat (pen pals, anyone?) and to practice my flirting skills with consenting adults. Unless of course you happen to be where I happen to be.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Exploring different cultures, meeting cool new people and trying to devise an escape plan from the seemingly endless production/consumption hamster wheel that is modern life.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I play classical and flamenco guitar, write music, essays and short stories, dance bachata (although I would file this under "I'm awkwardly beginning" rather than "I'm really good at") I'm a pretty dynamite chef, but you can't have any of my food unless you bring me wine to go with it. I used to do pencil drawings, but haven't been able to work up sufficient enthusiasm for that lately.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my tattoos. People tell me, "damn Tom, those tattoos make you look like such a badass!" Actually, they say nothing of the sort. But I imagine that they do. Then I laugh to myself and think, "if they only knew."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Philip K Dick, John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemingway, George Orwell, Henry Miller, Noam Chomsky, Hermann Hesse, Jack Kerouac, hmmm..... I need to read more female authors.

The Clash, Smashing Pumpkins, the Specials, At the Drive In, Bomba Estéreo, Ken Boothe, Dead Kennedys, Batmobile, Black Heat, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, the Nerve Agents, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Toots and the Maytals, Murder City Devils, Neko Case, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, Massive Attack, this could go on all night.

When I cook, I mostly cook Spanish, Italian, Greek, Moroccan and Indian.

I haven't owned a TV in years, so the only shows I see are ones that multiple friends insist I watch. Hence, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, the Wire, the Sopranos, Mad Men.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Family
2. Friends
3. Freedom
Everything else is just an accessory.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What is true and what isn't, and how you figure out the difference.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
It's Friday night right now, and I'm filling out an OKCupid profile. Last Friday night I was watching an opera in a 16th century monastery. Next Friday night I will be hitting the bars in Bucharest. I don't like patterns or routines.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have an online dating profile.
