Ooooh, this is going to be awkward. Right, here goes...

I think my friends would describe me as thoughtful, kind and funny (and if they don't use those exact words, let me know 'cos I'll be wanting my tenner back).

Enough?

Currently working for an ad agency in Victoria as a copywriter, which is ace. It's not exactly Mad Men but keeps my brain running and I enjoy the challenge.

I'm a science guy so I do a lot of work with healthcare brands (which has yet to turn me into a hypochondriac but time will tell). I'm also hoping, with enough pestering, I'll be able to do something which makes a proper difference.

Hobby-wise, I tend to flit a little but there're a few constants. I help edit a theatre reviews website so I see quite a lot of shows around the fringes of London (I'm even starting to recognise my favourite up-and-coming actors...)

I'm also addressing the fact that my job requires me to lift nothing heavier than a pen by doing volunteering that gets my hands dirty. Tried guerrilla gardening earlier this year and I've just started working at Vauxhall City Farm, building fences, shovelling poop and looking after the animals.

Otherwise I spend a lot of time cooking (mostly hearty and time-consuming stuff like breads and stews but I've just learned how to make dim sum) and looking guiltily at the guitar I've owned for over a year and rarely picked up.

Cooking enough food for twenty people even when just cooking for myself (I end up eating the same thing for a week shamefully often)

Trivia - 90% of my brain is made of pointless facts so I'm awesome at pub quizzes but a bit crap at life otherwise...

Innovative use of jelly - I am the proud inventor of the strawberry and black-pepper-vodka jelly (awesome), the Jaeger Bombe (red bull jelly with a liquid Jaegermeister centre - messy) and the deconstructed sushi jelly (dear lord why?!? Never again...)

Failing to say 'no' to anything

Probably my hyper-blue eyes - I've been described as a cross between Harry Potter and a hawk...

Difficult question! I basically love all things artsy but I'm not too picky within that - equally happy with Jason Statham or Helen Mirren; Taio Cruz or The Unthanks. Just never got ballet...

My tastes are changeable but currently a good cross-section:

Movie - The King's Speech, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, Truly Madly Deeply, The Princess Bride, Die Hard, Muppet Christmas Carol, Once, Life is Beautiful and Edward Scissorhands

Plays - Matilda, War Horse, As You Like It. Also pretty much anything at the National Theatre.

TV show - Heston's Fantastical Feasts, The Newsroom, The West Wing, House, Black Books, Spaced, Life on Mars (and now How Britain Worked with Guy Martin). Trying to get started with Breaking Bad, Arrested Development and Boardwalk Empire - I feel like I've missed out.

Book - David Attenborough's autobiography, Middlesex, The Count of Monte Christo and anything by Terry Pratchett or Peter F Hamilton. Massively enjoying China Mieville and Ben Aaronovich at the moment. I've also joined a book group at work who seem keen on reading Gone Girl (anyone want to warn me off?)

Band - Seeing The Stones AND The Who this summer so currently firmly fixed in the 60/70s.
Otherwise, Foo Fighters, Pulp, Mumford and Sons, The Kleptones. Thanks to the rather wonderful Lazify, I'm also expanding my musical taste and discovering a massive love for folk punk bands The Roughneck Riot and Trampled by Turtles. Banjoes are winning. And I'm swotting up on 'modern bands' for Latitude.

Solo Artist - Maverick Sabre, Johnny Flynn, Ben Folds, Girl Talk and DJ Format

Album - The King is Dead by The Decemberists, Tales From The Thames Delta by The Milk, By The Way by RHCP, We Are The Royal by Royal Republic. I'm also adding The Asylum Years by Tom Waits - yeah, it's sort of a greatest hits but there's not a bad song on there (and 'Martha' is my getting-over-a-hangover song)

Ice-cream flavour - Cinnamon, Speculoos, Coffee

Word - Frottage, Swingeing and Terracotta

Places in London - The Troubadour in West Brompton, Natural History Museum, Maison Bertraux, the Arts Theatre Club, Battersea Park (particularly the zoo), Gabriel's Wharf, Wilton's Music Hall and the Good Ship in Kilburn (excellent standup venue)
