Books: Mostly non fiction and mostly music related books. Just
finished that Keith Richard's autobiography from last year. I love
autobiographies from old country singers. Some of those guys lived
"rock and roll" lives that people in music today could only
fantasize about.
Movies: Mostly indies, foreign film, documentaries, and older
stuff. I get obsessed with directors. Some of my favorites are
Werner Herzog, Jim Jarmusch, The Coen Brothers, PT Anderson, Wes
Anderson, Lars Van Triers, and Kubrick. I usually go to the movie
theaters a few times a month.
Music: Honestly all sorts of things. I have almost 4000 Cds and
around 1500 records. I love alot of different types of music but
indie rock and alt country/bluegrass/Americana are my main jams. My
favorites include Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Dylan, Talking Heads,
Richard Thompson, The Drive-by Truckers, Lucero, Robyn Hitchcock,
Neko Case, Pavement, Sonic Youth, Dirty Projectors, Wolf Parade,
Beach House, Bonnie Prince Billy, The National, Lost in the Trees,
Wye Oak, The Kinks, Okkervill River, Porter Wagoner, New
Pornographers, Nick Cave, old timey stuff, Mingus, Larry and his
Flask, Hold Steady, Eric Dolphy, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, The
Stones, blah blah blah. I can spend hours and hours in a good
record store. We have 100 years of recorded music at our finger
tips. Why would you ever limit yourself to one tiny piece of that
pie.
