What I’m doing with my life
I currently work in a little corner of social policy for the provincial government. In addition to throwing down bureaucratic-speak like no one's business and hunting for ways to 'work the system,' I like to think I'm doing a small part to make a little difference for the better. But long-term, who knows?! Working in a different sector or city? Living abroad? Starting a business one day? Time will tell!

Outside of my work life I really enjoy a multitude, a plethora, no, a cornucopia of interests, such as: being outside (in general); running; swimming; biking around town; reading about current events; unambitious yoga-ing; picking out books to read at the library; drinking coffee alone, with others, or in the company of strangers; checking out local events, festivals, exhibits, etc; experimental cooking; wandering parts of the city and enjoying the feel of different neighbourhoods; chillin' with my baby nephew; daydreaming about the dog I will own one day; imperfect knitting; and trying new things! I'm always open to suggestions on new activities, hobbies, or hangouts to try.

Travelling is something that is also pretty important to me. With my limited vacation time, I try to take one or two trips per year. My last trip was to Nicaragua (amazing!) and I'm already dreaming of where to go next....Vietnam? Cambodia? Iceland? Croatia? Greece?
I’m really good at
Making conversation and being friendly. Listening. Small talk with strangers.

Getting sh*t done. I believe a wise man once said "Just do it."

Early mornings.

Making plans. I somehow seem to fall into the 'organizer' role a fair bit at work and with friends.

Having serious, impassioned conversations about important issues and accepting other people's different opinions. Then breaking any tension with a dirty joke, some sarcasm, some self-deprecation, or a pseudo-intellectual reflection on some 'hot' pop culture topic.

Cuddling with strangers' dogs on the street. If you are walking a cute dog, I will ask to snuggle with it.

Eating the leftover icing on the cake tray.
The first things people usually notice about me
Hmmm I haven't asked! I would guess my curly hair, or that no matter what I do, I seem to have to have a very large amount of stuff in my backpack when I go to work or I'm walking/cycling around town.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I was in a book club with other 20-something urbanites for a couple years until recently, and it provided me with high-quality reading material. Now it's kind of fun being able to pick whatever jumps out at me. Recent faves have included Beautiful Ruins, Barney's Version, Never Let Me Go, The Imperfectionists, Let the Great World Spin, and The Namesake. And travel books, of course.

Favourite shows include House of Cards, Suits, Parks and Recreation, New Girl, Modern Family, West Wing re-runs, and the CBC morning news.

Favourite music is eclectic, and includes Jay Z, Bon Iver, Sam Roberts Band, Mumford & Sons, Lumineers, HAIM, Avett Brothers, Neko Case, the National, Ellie Goulding, the Mellow Jazz and Mello Cello playlists on Songza, and (I'm not ashamed to admit it) some catchy top-40 material. Beyonce is just great.

Favourite food is generally simple and comforting: peanut butter (on almost all the things); roasted vegetables; oatmeal (the breakfast of champions); ice cream; and vegetarian chilis and stews. I have a big sweet tooth--Bulk Barn is very dangerous.

I generally enjoy a wide range of movies, from mainstream comedy to documentaries, to blockbuster action movies, to the kinds of movies played on Sunday afternoon TV. If you've ever seen the Cutting Edge and/or Captain Ron, you're my kind of people. Last movies I saw and loved were Frances Ha and Dallas Buyers Club.
The six things I could never do without
Family and friends are a given, so I won't use up one of my six items with those ones...

Running, cycling, swimming, yoga, walking, and other forms of activity to get the blood flowing and to get fresh air.

Coffee. My true love. I'm learning to control my love so that I can sleep at night, however. We're working on transforming our relationship to one of co-dependency and self-destruction to one of mutual love and respect, with boundaries.

Traveling and making future travel plans.

Oatmeal. So versatile. So goopy. So good.

My library card. So much stuff, for free!

My sonicare toothbrush. Less effort, more dentist-fresh feeling.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
A combination of 'deep thoughts' balanced with frivolity, such as: what I want to do next in my career; in what corner of Toronto/Ontario/Canada/the world will I land next; why people dislike the Oxford comma; what I'm going to eat for dinner; how great my next cup of coffee will be; what happened to Missy Elliott; how frequently Jay-Z and Beyonce talk to the Obamas...

And if you tell OKCupid that you only brush your teeth once a day, is it in the morning or night? Which is more gross--going to bed with dirty teeth, or going the whole day without brushing first? (yes, this is a thinly veiled comment to all those who only brush your teeth once a day. I don't understand you.)
On a typical Friday night I am
Maybe some low-key socializing with friends and wine, maybe escaping to see a movie....

....maybe going for a swim or popping into a yoga class....

....maybe cooking or baking up a storm...

...and there are often Friday nights that I spend watching bad tv or an old comedy on netflix and loving it.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I love maple syrup like whoa, and can't keep a bottle in my fridge for fear of inevitably consuming it way too fast. Even worse: I prefer Aunt Jemima's to the real stuff. Treason, indeed.

You are a nice person--you are nice to servers and you thank bus drivers. You don't chew with your mouth open. The idea of taking a couple months off to travel is appealing to you. You like dogs. You look for, and focus on, the bright side. You don't take yourself too seriously! Basically, I'm interested in awesome.
