Tu Quieres bilar? I struggled to put the words together as I managed to ask a young lady to dance despite the laser lights and blazing musica at the Charlie Hotel. Pretty ballsy if you ask me since I had no freaking Idea how to dance salsa (at the time). I wasn't at all ready for what I was getting myself into. At this point in my life I still believed I had 2 left feet so even the simplest steps seemed like reading Chinese Mandarin. Plus I have that ultra gringo "hey he for sure can't dance" look. Then I realized that the small risk was truly nothing as I stared off into the skyline from the rooftop where I happened to be. The city lights of Medellin are truly beautiful. (Take your breathe away kinda beautiful) The skyline and city lights were breathtaking as it lit up the valley of jungle for as far as ones eyes could see. I ended up meeting some amazing people, danced to some amazing Latin music and was involved in an exclusive photo shoot which put my friend and I in the center of a New York Times exclusive article which later proceed us getting kicked out of the hotel. (A Long story for another time) Life lesson dully noted. Risks = Reward and yes Salsa dancing can be learned quickly.
The last year has taught me a lot about myself. I'm not James Bond nor Indiana Jones. (Yet) But I sure felt like I came close. From surfing in Mexico and Costa Rica, Downhill Mountain Biking in the Jungle of Colombia, Meeting Miss Colombia, Boxing and Muy Thai Training, learning Spanish, learning how to salsa dance, volunteering and even Skydiving over the Panama canal!
All this has created a passion for travel and adventure but also a humbling love for the world and meeting new people. It has created a true thankfulness for what I have and has been my fuel for creating something great in both my business and personal life moving forward. Working toward something bigger than myself and networking. That's when you can truly make a difference.
What do you like to do? How do you challenge yourself to become a better person? What's the most adventurous thing you have done in the past year?
Currently I'm into language learning, pushing myself to learn new skills, nutrition, dancing, volunteering and yes...cooking! I see a culinary pro in my future...maybe...ha. (At least all my food isn't burned anymore :)
hablamos pronto
Ciao
