My self-summary
I'm a bleeding heart idealist working in a fairly conservative field. The accident of athletic gift gave me a decade of terrific education, but I have never worked in an office, classroom, or cubicle. Used to be conflicted about that, now I'm just grateful.

I'm insatiably curious, empathetic, a do-gooder, an egg-headed athlete, an insouciant grown-up, a peripatetic homebody, weirdly well-mannered for one so given to profanity when possible, a good neighbour, even better friend.

I hate empire, but I love Kipling, and I've always endeavored to be like Kim...stranger to none, friend to all.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm looking forward to more travel, far and near while I enjoy the sanctuary of my little house and huge garden. I work as a trainer and do a little editing and translating on the side. I love my neighbors and my adopted hometown. After so many years on the road, I think I finally have found my home base.
I’m really good at
Showing up, making things by hand, making dinner, making a fool of myself, and making things a little better for whoever, however and whenever I can. Also, I've taught my cats to sit-up, shake paws, and one can speak on command...or, well request. I mean, she's a cat. She also has an origin story worthy of a super-hero. Seriously, I'm Clark Kent's dad.
The first things people usually notice about me
No idea. Maybe height? I don't think guys really get that kind of feedback...thank goodness.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
This could be an impossibly long list, so just the highlights.

Books:
Lately it has all been textbooks, and that's not bad. My Anatomy and Physiology text is awesome. Cannot wait to see how it ends. Gray's Anatomy isn't a TV show, the actual text is art.

Movies:
Recently my schedule has made the cable shows my go to escape... Boardwalk Empire, GOT, Sherlock are all favorites. I'm also a closet Anglophile and BBC addict. Seems like any dystopic future/sci-fi stuff gets me every time. For me, Documentaries are like what I imagine crack to be.

Podcasts:
Kind of developing an addiction to several. People telling me stories...can't be wrong. Snap Judgement is a new fave.

Music:
Yes, please...any and all types, preferably live. I may have had a religious experience watching Jim James perform 'State of the Art' at Sleep No More. Seeing Polica live reminded me of why I moved here.

Food:
Yes, please...any and all types, preferably, well, not live, but fresh, local and from scratch when possible. I love to cook.
The six things I could never do without
Only six? I must be greedy, 'cause my list is way longer. Thankfully, all the things I can't do without are those money can't buy.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My friends and how I can help them.
How amazing it would be to live on a boat.
Physiology.
Cosmology.
Sex.
Dinner.
Designing furniture.
Trauma medicine.
Microbes.
Justice.
History.
Music.
Liggy, my cat and free-roaming Id.
On a typical Friday night I am
Wait, it's Friday? Who knew...I have a weird schedule, so fun can happen pretty much any time. What's fun? Some priceless art at the MIA followed by a big bowl of pho or a banh mi at Quangs; dressing up to blend in with the swells at some swank shindig; a drink and great conversation anywhere outdoors; anything with music...I could watch paint dry with the right person.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
This isn't private, but...several people have asked about religion. I wish they had a category for 'free thinker', since that's a more meaningful description. I'm absolutely committed to unqualified compassion and universal human dignity and freedom. I just don't believe in God.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 30–50
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
You think, you care, you don't get too stressed about first-world problems, you're curious, you'd (ideally) like to start something real without an expiration date.
