My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I strive hard for true freedom, and I get what I want out of life. Who wants to join my zombie-apocalypse survival club?

Warning: I have a highly attuned and much coveted "beard-dar". I know that you secretly own more than 3 cats, live in a van down by the river, or have a beard yourself. I'm on to you. Please refer to my Journal entry for further information/refinement.

My life has been in state of beautiful growth and flux lately. After seven years living on a sailboat in the Puget Sound, I have just recently moved into a terrestrially-sequestered containment unit: ie, an apartment named “LandLandia”. Life as a liveaboard sailor was grand and served me well while in graduate school, but I have an “adult” job (software… not porn. Perv.) and the apartment serves many other amazing desires. I get to have my upright bass within my own dwelling, for one, and get back into practicing daily.

I love riding my bike. It is my main transport around the city, and an excellent tool for socialization, exercise, fun, blowing off steam, and death-defying antics. Also, bike camping. I run a fair amount, and I try to get in some "self-ass-kicking" three or so times a week.

Other major passions in my life including a daily mysticism/meditation practice (centered around Raja Yoga right now), motorcycle riding, sailing, playing music (upright and electric bass, jazz), and a serous martial arts practice ... I'll not get into so many details here, but there is a single thread throughout my passions that I have distilled. Have passion!

I enjoy cooking wholesome foods with lots of veggies and simple ingredients. I like to take good care of my body, including good fuel. Preparing and sharing food with people I care about can be very powerful and cherished experience. I have a number of tattoos (~25 hours worth) and piercings. Partners need to be cool with that, though ideally have some body art of their own.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am a hopeless academic and nerd. I recently completed my PhD in physical chemistry. Nothing that I do in research is going to make a better mouse-trap or better bombs. It is discovering the secrets of the universe for the sake of knowing, as it should be. Then it seemed time for a complete upheaval of career tracks and I started working in software. I refuse to be trapped by a "career". Sometimes I simply outright reject reality. Life is much more fun that way.

With my new land dwelling I'm getting my musical chops up for gigging, and working on a set of illustrations for a friends sailing memoir... on top of generally making a mess of things experimenting with art projects.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Wearing out my Carhartts.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my beard or my tattoos... at least physically.

I've been continually told I have an intense energy, so take that for what it's worth. Maybe they are confusing that with "beard".

Trusting people with musical recommendations is the best way to expand ones horizons. What should I be listening to? What album hasn't left your player in months?

Right now I have been listening to a lot of Battles, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Iron & Wine, and Sufjan Stevens... Then there's also an endless love of metal, thrash, and generally abrasive, passionate music.

Books: Lately I've been reading metaphysics/shamanism/magick books: Rolling Thunder, Tales of Power, Liber Null, Liber ABA... The most powerful fiction I have read is The Old Man and the Sea. Positively epic.

I don't watch a lot of TV, as I don't own one and never have. Hulu is changing that slightly, and I'll put on the odd show while cleaning or cooking dinner.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My bike
10 pints of blood
umm...
food?
...

Shit, this is dumb. I really don't get that attached to material things. I mean, it would *suck* if my boat sank or I broke my bass, but I'd keep on going.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Who am I and who do I want to be?

What is that crow telling me?

OMG WHATS THAT OVER THERE!?

I enjoy investing energy in people who find awe and positive experience in noticing small details in the word, amazing clouds/skys, and enjoy getting small snail-mail packages with art in them... on top of generally liking similar activities. Also, people who are willing to forage food, put fake mustaches on real ones, and have the freedom to be silly.

Lets drink some coffee, beer, and whiskey (generally in that order). The rest will figure itself out.
