I am driven, intuitive, and rigorous.

My Self-Summary

Geek: Battlestar Galactica, architecture, Stereolab, Steve Reich, Velasquez and Aeschylus. There's more.

gradumacated from a pretty good grad program in set design in '08 and embarking on my dream career. we'll see if it's still dreamy in 5 years. Always busy, thankfully yet always free for coffee.

Check out my professional site at jonwcollins[dot]com. yes, my name is jonwcollins, one word.

What I’m doing with my life

attempting to be a set designer. trying to become more culturally aware and keep my strong friendships strong and ongoing. Creating a professional family of collaborators who all like each other and think in different but complementary ways.

I’m really good at

making myself laugh at naughty jokes.

The first things people usually notice about me

the goofy grin

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

A) arthur clarke, larry niven, anything relating to classical studies, gnostic gospels or early art. Collected works of Albee is falling apart. B) 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Muppet Movie. And many many things in between. Non-sleazy horror films, britcoms and robot chicken. Not a movie, but whatev. C) Steve Reich, Stereolab, Stephen Sondheim, David Bowie, Aaron Copland, Bernstein, Bjork, John Adams, James Brown, Asobi Seksu, Sea and Cake and a whole bunch of crazy stuff. D) Homecooked thai. Corn bread. Mac & Cheese from Cafeteria. I make a mean baked ziti, especially when I get dumped, apparently. [UPDATE: baked ziti still tasty.]

The six things I could never do without

in my bag at all times: scale ruler, 3H pencil, sketch pad, ipod touch, artist's tape, and the script of whatever show i'm working on. That's the bare minimum for leaving my apartment.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

storytelling. life, love, how to make government work, gay rights. my friends. architecture. how to be better at what i love. seriously interested in religion and ritual, but not a believer in any sense, really.

On a typical Friday night I am

probably working. But, you never know.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

i own a pair of handcuffs and they've been used exactly once, and it was boring.

You should message me if

you wouldn't be deterred by a stupid answer here.
