BOOKS
Anything approximating Southern Gothic...including William
Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Cormac McCarthy, and Toni Morrison.
Throw in anything Junot Diaz, Don DeLillo and Richard Yates. Still
haven't gotten around to Franzen or Lethem, yet. Been meaning to
fix that.
MOVIES
Most films directed by Wong Kar-Wai, Takeshi Kitano, François
Truffaut, Terrance Malick, P.T. Anderson and Shohei Imamura.
Anything Charlie Kaufman. My all time favorite film, however, is
CITY OF GOD. I saw SUBMARINE on a plane recently and was amazed
that there is still some humor, pathos and originality to be
squeezed out the "Coming of Age" genre.
TV
The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Mad Men,
Community, Parks & Recreation...and Girls (yep, I admit it).
And anything cooking related, food & travel related, and pretty
much everything on the Food Network.
FOOD
Anything and everything. Just moved back to LA from NYC, so I'm
psyched that this a comparable "food town." Loving the varied Asian
and Latin cuisine in my neighborhood (Wilshire Center/Koreatown).
