My self-summary
Hi. I'm a sci-fi geek working to make sci-fi into reality. Although, if you think about it, we already live in a science-fictional universe: if you told people 20 years ago we'd have computers in our pockets that let us throw birds at pigs no matter where we are, they'd think you're talking about a particularly cruel Star Trek episode.

But I digress. Sci-fi aside, I enjoy conversations both intellectual and inane, although each has its time and place. I'm closer to carnivore than vegetarian, and have made a pledge to at least try any new meat presented to me; however, I have nothing wrong with those who have chosen a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle for themselves. And I'm beginning to find the zombie apocalypse a bit passé; it's interesting as a way to view post-apocalyptic scenarios in general, but a friend of mine recently pointed out that rabies is basically the zombie virus (it makes you go crazy and start biting things), and even though it can infect all mammals, we still haven't been wiped out as a species.
What I’m doing with my life
I recently received my Ph.D. in computer science, focusing on machine learning. You know how in science fiction, you ask a computer a question, and it processes some huge database to give you a reliable and human-readable answer? Basically, I do that.

Going forward, I'm looking to get an academic or industry job that helps me grow my career. In the meantime, I'm continuing my machine learning research in academia.
I’m really good at
Science, especially biology and computer science. I've got an almost supernatural intuition in those fields, which I prefer to think of as bluffing reality into going along with hunches.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: HHGTTG, Terry Pratchett, Harry Potter, The Wheel of Time. Generally, anything science fiction or fantasy.

Movies: Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Lord of the Rings (dirty secret: I never finished the trilogy in book form), The Matrix (not the sequels, of course)

Music: Muse, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Journey, Nirvana, Crystal Method, Pink, Darude, Fish, Ookla the Mok

Food: My favorites include Japanese food and Thai food, though I'm not a big fan of Mexican. I enjoy trying new foods.

TV Shows/Anime: Stargate SG-1, Doctor Who, Chuck, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Cowboy Bebop, Anything by Joss Whedon, The Middleman, The Big Bang Theory, Once Upon A Time, Fringe
The six things I could never do without
* My friends
* My laptop
* Books
* My cat
* The ability to count to six
I spend a lot of time thinking about
* What causes the irregular seasons in Game of Thrones
* How one could travel backward in time while breaking the minimal number of physical laws
* Where all the baby pigeons are
On a typical Friday night I am
The same thing I do every night: Try to take over the world!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a strong dislike for 1970's architecture. They call it "Brutalist," and I assume this is because it's brutal to look at.
