I am well read, adventurous, and super geeky.
My Self-Summary
Recently completed my bachelor's of science in history emphasizing
the history of science. I really enjoy a good story and since
history is the true story of humanity it was a natural fit for me.
Fiction is also a great passion of mine whether it's just a fun
fantasy adventure or exploring the intersection of
scientific/technological advancement and society through science
fiction. It doesn't really matter what medium (books, television,
movies,) but my favorite for storytelling is video games because
you can get people actually engaged in making decisions and
experiencing the consequences of their decisions.
Try to travel as much as possible but don't like to go as a typical
tourist. I love to find small hotels to stay at and refuse to
adhere to an itinerary. Instead prefer to show up in a city with
little idea of what I'm going to do and where I will end up next.
Traveling to me is about exploring and each trip an
adventure.
I do enjoy discussing serious topics but am more interested in an
exchange of ideas rather than necessarily trying to win a debate.
Even so you can't be serious all the time and like to goof off as
much as the next person. I moved to Plano recently to start my
masters program at the Legacy SMU campus. It would be great to meet
some new people in the area to at least hang out with.
What I’m doing with my life
I majored in history but find academia a little too stuffy for my
tastes and am trying to keep things interesting. Was recently
accepted to a masters program in level design and should be
crossing the divide between gamer and game developer over the next
couple of years, which is very exciting. Long term I would like to
put together a talented group of my colleagues to start our own
independent studio with.
I’m really good at
Anything to do with computers which have been my primary hobby
since age four. Also a pretty good writer, martial artist,
historian, cook, etc. I just love learning new things.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Snow Crash, Neuromancer, Berserk (manga), James Clavell's
Asian Saga, The Man in the High Castle, all of Charles Darwin's
works, Machiavelli's Il Principe and Il Discorsi (Machiavelli is
deeply misunderstood so don't get the wrong idea; he really is a
good guy), Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries.
Movies: Bladerunner, Howl's Moving Castle, Appleseed, The Last
Samurai, Children of Men, Sunshine, The Fountain, Moon, District 9,
etc.
Music: I can find stuff from pretty much any genre (not so much
country or rap). Mostly rock especially progressive metal.
Food: Japanese, Thai, Indian...really most anything but ethnic food
is my favorite.
The six things I could never do without
Computer, friends, science (it works!), good stories, a fine pen,
and paper.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Game designs, science fiction stories, science/technology, history,
philosophy, politics and current events...among other randomness.
On a typical Friday night I am
Playing a game, watching movies, reading a book, hanging out with
friends...
You should message me if
Anything I've said interests you please feel free to contact me. I
really do like to get to know new people even if just as "internet
friends".
