My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
i've been an internet junkie for long enough that i used to have a livejournal. bourbon is my favorite. i live in brooklyn and i work in manhattan; hooray for a daily commute. i'm sweet and sour, idealistic and cynical, intuitive and paradoxical.

i'm into cyclical change and the passage of time. in the fall i grow a beard, in the spring i shave it off. see?

i love food, both in theory and in practice. i do a fair bit of cooking, and i dig on fermentation.

i am thoughtful, wordy, and volatile. i am judgy. not in a bad way, but still. thought you should know. i recently gave up smoking and drinking, because my doctor sucks.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
livin, man. l-i-v-i-n. also, using inconsistent capitalization conventions (sorry). i got some book learning and now i work in a new media and video production. ask me about it.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
words, navigation and rockin out.
and i can probably make you laugh.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
my glamorously self-destructive behaviour. my kickin browline (no, seriously). my enormous liquid eyes. my deep, bass voice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
books: working, the yiddish policeman's union, the impressionist, the brief wondrous life of oscar wao, anathem (yeah, neal stephenson in general), a good man is hard to find, wolf hall, asoiaf

movies: cool hand luke, do the right thing, down by law, boogie nights, fort apache the bronx, fight club, pretty much anything ever made by the coen brothers (but especially miller's crossing, fargo, the big lebowski and no country for old men)

tv: battlestar gallactica, the daily show, the colbert report, the wire (it's overrated, but still), of course the simpsons, special soft spot for bbc costume dramas and murder mystery procedurals

music: tom waits, elliott smith, missy elliott, outkast, tin hat trio, johnny cash, cat power, brown bird, sharon jones

food: cheese tortellini with vodka sauce, anything alfredo, fish & chips, cheeseburgers, meat loaf, sesame bagels, whitefish salad, penang curry, singapore mei fun, mattar paneer, cheese, pickles, romaine lettuce, chick peas, brussels sprouts
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
there are very few things i could never do without, but some things i would prefer not to do without include: pizza, dad jokes, wikipedia, the scent of freshly mown grass, this american life, dental floss
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
how complicated it all is. also, myself. history kind of blows my mind a little bit. human beings are bizarre creatures, and very difficult to understand either individually or in aggregate. i still feel lucky, though.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
just doing my typical friday night thing. you know, that thing i typically do between my typical thursday night thing and my typical saturday night thing. Often a Shabbat dinner, often involving a vegetarian potluck.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
The ability to write compelling OKCupid self-summaries is a quality I value highly in a mate.
