I am candy-coated, enteric, and deep fried.
My Self-Summary
My persona can be summarized by adding up traits from the following
TV/movie characters: Charlie from
It's Always
Sunny in Philadelphia, Dwight from
The Office, Dante from
Clerks, and Donny from
The Big
Lebowski.
I've been in LA for a year by the way of NYC and Washington, DC.
Still so many things to see.
I love outdoor activities. I love
skiing, but haven't been skiing with
anyone at my skill level in over 15 years (I'm good, most of my
friends aren't). I tried snowboarding once, but after one trip down
the bunny hill I stomped back to the rental shop and got skis.
Hiking and
camping are other
cool things to do.
I possess a wealth of knowledge. This knowledge will come in useful
in a trivia challenge or if you want to know about the NYC Subway
system. I could also get you completely lost in the Mid-Atlantic
states with my knowledge of secondary and tertiary roads. Also, if
you need to learn a woodwind instrument in a pinch I'm your guy.
What I’m doing with my life
I've found myself shilling electronics for a marketing
company.
Unlike many of us who have relocated to LA, I did not move here to
persue a career in showbusiness. Not ruling it out, but not at the
moment.
I've been shopping for new hobbies. I want to get back into
photography,
but I want to do it the right way with the right equipment.
I’m really good at
-The Tango: Maureen (You know what I mean).
-Recalling obscure movie lines.
-Being the wildcard.
-Throwing rocks.
-Discussing the misfortune of the independent contractors working
on the 2nd Death Star.
-Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
-Playing woodwind instruments.
-Maintaining a steady 8-to-5 gait
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes. Apparently I have very kind eyes.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I tend to read books from the humor section (finishing up Denis
Leary's book right now) or anything about American
history/Americana. I also have a thing for
Tom Wolfe books.
I love a wide variety of films. Anything from
Freddy Got Fingered
to
Citizen
Kane and anything in between. I think that
Kevin Smith is a God, and
George Lucas
should have stopped with the three
Star Wars movies he already had in the
can instead of those prequels. Oh, and who can forget a great
filmmaker like
Russ
Meyer?
My musical tastes are about as varied as they come. I started up
the iTunes DJ feature and the next 10 songs in the shuffle are from
the following:
The Bloodhound Gang,
Paul
McCartney,
Ozzy Osbourne,
Veruca Salt,
ABBA,
Britney Spears,
Kenny Rogers,
April March,
Nirvana, and
The Decemberists.
Random enough for ya?
Food? I'm always up for a good burger. I had Thai food for the
first time this year (I know....) and it's not bad either. But if I
had to pick something on the fancy side, I would choose Italian.
And don't forget the milk steaks, boiled hard with a side of
jellybeans.
I will go on at-length about this wine called Red Cat. It's cheap,
tasty, and it is bottled in this little hayseed town I used to live
in. I'm not above making the 50 mile trek to the one wine shop in
Southern CA that sells it, either.
Why is there no TV category? I LOVE TV!
The six things I could never do without
My phone. I'm not a huge talker, but it keeps me connected to the
world (and the internets). Oh.. iPod, laptop, Diet Coke, Starbucks,
and comfy shoes.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why there isn't a TV category in the "My favorite..." field. Oh,
and world peace and should I stop at Carls's Jr. on the way home.
On a typical Friday night I am
Tell you what I'm NOT doing... and that is standing in line for
anything. I could be at home, or at a movie, or out gorging myself
on bar food and beer.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I lost all of my money in a Ponzi scheme.
I love playing the bass clarinet part in "Dance of the Sugar Plum
Fairy" on a contra-alto clarinet (for effect).
I cannot cook.
