My self-summary Propose an edit
Some buzzwords that interest me: entrepreneur, atheism, libertarian, individualism, technology.
It's fair to say that I'm an atypical resident of Berkeley, or for
that matter, just about anywhere. I'm friendly and well socialized
but I'm not a herd critter. I have a distrust of authority that I
generally view as being quite healthy.
I'm a skeptic. To
me, it means having a preference for facts over wishful thinking,
not being a doubter or denier. If you can prove me wrong, I'll
gratefully change my mind.
I'm a geek, but of the math/science/technical variety, not the
gaming/renaissance faire/Star Trek variety. I keep up on current events. I'm
opinionated. I enjoy a good debate, but it's the discussion that
matters to me, not trying to browbeat you into submission.
I don't tie myself to convention or tradition. Hopefully you don't
either.

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Working for the man (i.e. me).
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Object
oriented coding, spelling, parallel parking, Rubik's cubes, math. I'm
good enough at chess
to beat almost all 7 year old prodigies I've come across at
the club.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
I often get remarks that I look much younger than I really am. I'm
not complaining, even though I still get carded from time to
time.
I lost about 50 pounds since the beginning of the year. If you
already know me, you're likely to notice I'm a lot slimmer than I
used to be. On the plus side, I'm at my scientifically determined
ideal weight (so at least in theory I should be healthier for it).
On the minus side, I had to discard all of my old pants. Also on
the minus side, there's now less to love.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
a) Lord of the Rings (I like the movies too.) Anything by
Hemingway. Godel, Escher, Bach (Douglas Hofstadter), Contact (Carl
Sagan), The Collector Collector (Tibor Fischer), Immortality (Milan
Kundera), The Dark Tower series (Stephen King), The Selfish Gene
(Richard Dawkins).
b) The Big Lebowski, Star Wars (IV, V, and VI), Donnie Darko,
Apocalypse Now!, The Sweet Hereafter, any Monty Python flick.
Office Space changed my life.
c) Steely Dan, Miles Davis, Pink Floyd, U2, REM, The Police, just
about anything from the 80's.
d) I'm a vegan. My
exceptions are: cheese, butter, ice cream, eggs, fish (particularly
sushi), seafood, chicken, duck, turkey, beef, pork, and especially
bacon. Mmm... bacon.
I'll try anything once.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
The internet, coffee, books, friends, toilet paper, DVDs.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Politics. Death. Sex. Not necessarily in order of importance or
time spent.
I also think a lot about my love/hate relationship with Berkeley.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Probably doing something low key.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I amuse myself by factoring house and license plate numbers in my
head.
My favorite Sesame Street character is the Cookie Monster.
You should message me if Propose an edit
I'm drawn to people with curious natures. I am curious in the sense
of "I want to know more about the world", not "I'm confused about
my sexuality". World travel and a love of learning (not necessarily
education) are big pluses.
You probably shouldn't IM me. It's unlikely that I'll respond if I
don't know you. If you like my profile, send a note (or at least a
woo).
