I love food and I love making food for people I love. I'll try
anything once, usually twice.
Music: I can't pin my tastes down to any particular style or genre.
I really only listen to NPR and KDHX, so I have no idea what's
supposed to be cool right now and I am fully aware that makes me
sound like an asshole. I think The National has written some of the
most heartbreakingly beautiful love songs and that I would have
liked to be like Penny Lane (sadness and all). The Julie Ruin, MIA,
MS MR, Bombino, and Bruiser Queen seem to be in constant rotation
lately, as are Moondog and Jack White. I love live blues: the
dirty, gritty stuff. Hot gypsy jazz has captured my fancy. I don't
trust anyone who can sit still while listening to James
I love to read. Sometimes I have mini panic attacks because there
are so many books and so little time. I can't pick a favorite,
ever. I recently joined a YA book club and that's neat. It's not a
book, but I love the Utne Reader. I really enjoyed the Song of Ice
and Fire series and will hardcore nerd-out about it if you want.
Harry Potter always and forever and ever amen. I enjoy a lot of
non-fiction, too. Right now I'm reading some essays on Catholic
theology from a feminist prospective.
There is a pretty good chance I haven't seen most of the movies you
consider awesome, so don't be surprised when I say "oh, I haven't
seen that, but I'd love to" because I really spend my alone time
reading or painting or dancing and trying to memorize "Regulate" by
Warren G. Other than that: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,
Closer, Almost Famous, Romeo + Juliet, Stop Making Sense, Pan's
Labyrinth, The Departed, Star Wars IV-VI, O Brother Where Art Thou,
I don't watch a lot of TV, but I really enjoy Game of Thrones, The
Walking Dead, OITNB (!!), and I'm pumped about Coven, because my
ultimate goal in life is to make all of my neighbors assume I am a
witch. And also possibly be a witch. I used to really enjoy HBO's
Girls until I started hearing "OMG you remind me of that one girl
from Girls" and "has anyone told you that you are a lot like Lena
Dunham?" at least bi-weekly. Also: annoying white girl privilege.
Oh, I am a dedicated member of the Leslie Knope fan club.
