I am looking, for friends, and tests.

My Self-Summary

In high school I was a varsity cheerleader and wrestler. And a dancer. In college I enjoyed rugby. I feel a bit lazy now.

A while ago I got together with a few friends from my first college and was reminded of all the strange little things I used to do constantly. I miss the person who did them, but I think parts of her are spread across the country (in the hearts and minds of many?) so I move on to the grown up me.

I still have a temper, can be loud, am always willing to dance and will dance with strangers or alone when no one I know will dance with me. I still can be a flake. I still have much more going on inside than anyone could hope to see from the outside (but at least I have a better idea of what is going on in there). You will never meet someone exactly like me. Many may not like me all the time, cause I can act like a bitch, but part of you will always love me if you let it. It's cause I am human, and through me you can see your own humanity. That's why I like you so much...

Also, my friends remind me I am basically a 5 year old half the time. In the childlike way, not the immature way. I like to fly kites and have a beer in the park. I think like a scientist, whose internal monologue is sometimes a bit external. I can act like a normal person, but most of the time I don't bother. Really I only do it a very limited amount when at work or when I am observing people. (Not creepily, it is the scientist in me. People stare at me enough I figure a little people watching won't cause much harm.)

What I’m doing with my life

I work in a lab; doing lab work, paper work, and chillen at xkcd.com.
I play with my friends (like my best friend MeauxPas), my roommate (damdog9802), and my pets. Keeps a lady busy.
Mostly, I am trying to figure out what I want out of life. When I've got that nailed down it will be much easier to know where to go next.

I’m really good at

Understanding new things, using different perspectives, empathy, making people with low self esteem intimidated, making people with high self esteem amused, multi-tasking.

And loving her friends with tenacity, acceptance and honesty.-docta_puella

The first things people usually notice about me

I look very different in real life. More attractive. I know, you say everyone thinks they look better then they do in pictures, when I actually do. I have a 'presence' that cannot be caught on film.

"Presence" is pretty vague. And fair enough, since it would probably sound vain for Sophy to say anything different herself. But what makes her more attractive in person than in mere pictures, because it cannot be captured on cold dead film, is much better described as "fucking awesomeness". - gmal

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

While I don't really have favorites of anything here, I do like that TV is not listed. If you inserted TV here, bummer.

I like fiction and non-fiction. My non-fiction is science or philosophy and my fiction is female focused or fantasy/sci-fi stories (or both).

I like dark comedies and non-mainstream movies above most other films. I liked "Wrist Cutters: a love story" and Vin Diesel. I know, I know, but he really could be a great actor if he could stop being type-cast...
I am currently lovin' "LAPUTA: Castle in the Sky"

I am nostalgic for AC/DC, the Eagles, Joni Mitchelle, and Tom Waits but like just about everything if you find me in the right mood. And really, I like music I can dance to. Which is everything. Once upon a time I was a drummer and a ballerina, and it is through my body that I appreciate music. Incidentally, it seems to help others appreciate it too.

For a long time I was a vegetarian (since the age of 13), but now I eat fish, making me a pseudo-vegetarian (or pescatarian apparently, which is not an approved form of vegetarianism by the Vegetarian Society). Go figure.

The six things I could never do without

What I had here was long and ramble-y. I do that. We all like to think this does not apply to us, that there are no 6 things we cannot really do without (save the essentials for humanoid life ie. food shelter blablabla).

Anyway, the new question is "What 6 things would you rather not live without?"

1) my pets. I really like my pets.

2) my friends, because because they are the family I have made for myself

3) my job, because I love working here, and the people are great, and I like being able to pay rent

4) connections with my family. In the past they have not been as strong as they are now, and I don't know how I put up with that

5) exercise/physical activity. I like the feeling of being in my body that much, and the endorphin release is rad. For me, going to the gym or ballet class is the most effective type of meditation. I still don't go to the gym or dance as much as I should, but I ride my bicycle most every day.

6) freedom. while I can survive without it, it makes life worth living.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Things. Everything. I never stop thinking, not while I am conscious.

The people in my life, interactions between people and sociology in general.

Grad School. And maybe being a doctor one day.

Bicycles.

What I am about to do.

And the things I did before I let myself think about them.

On a typical Friday night I am

Fridays have become that day I wait for all week cause it means I get to see my lovely man friend. It is then occupied with naked olympics, dinner, socializing (often with intoxicants, but not always), followed by private time and the best night's sleep I have had in 5 days (which may actually take place Saturday morning, but who cares).

Normally I am not that into routines. In this case I have found the perfect way to end the work week and I would have it no other way.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I am the trashiest classy lady you will ever meet.

Also, all my pics are less than a year old (roughly). That's personal right?

In October of 2008 I cut off about 14 inches of my hair, and donated it to Locks of Love. Since then I have not cut my hair. I call this my 'Great Hair Experiment'. Cut it back to about an inch, then see how it looks when it is different lengths. In October I will look back at the pictures I have been taking regularly and decide what hair length I want to go back to. Or maybe I will decide to continue the experiment another year. We will see.

You should message me if

Alright, here's the thing.

I don't do much internet communication. I like meeting people, not profiles. If we talk online, I will expect to meet off line if things go well. Platonic-like.

If you are here for sex; don't message me. Period. I know where to find sex, and I do not need your help.

If you are here for a relationship; I am not going to be your girlfriend. Sorry. I'm not up for that. As the song goes "I gotta man", and since I cannot picture a way he could be more perfect it would be a waste of both our time for you to try.

If you want purely friendliness; have a field day. I am a loyal friend regardless of my oddness, and there are some great people out there who know if they need a kidney all they have to do is ask. Plus I give great rubs.

Spelling and grammar I am humble about, and since I have dyslexic tendencies I accept help from others on things I find relevant. This is where the excitement of the Wiki-thing kicks in.

Oh, I am fairly slow at responding to messages. I am awkward, and rarely know what to say. If I take awhile, please do not take it personally. Hell, I might have meant to respond later and just forgotten.
