I am laid-back, problem-solving, and hyphen-ated.

My Self-Summary

i am the kind of person who actually wants to answer this question seriously but needs some sort of defense method like a clever and 'i'm not taking this too seriously' lead in. on the other hand, i'm also the kind of person who can't answer purely with clever/ironic response, because i actually do want to answer sincerely and not sound like a arrogant asshole. that's kinda my goal in life: don't be an asshole.

actually, that whole bit describes me about as well as i can manage. so yeah, there you go.

oh, and i'm reliably informed that i'm "adorable." so there's that, too.

What I’m doing with my life

i moved to nyc a couple years ago, and work at a non-profit doing research-y things on higher education and technology. i can somewhat accurately describe my current job as "library pundit." other than that, i ride my bike around queens, i eat delicious things (which often means delicious variants on junk food), i go to heavy metal concerts.

also, i'm trying to meet you (n.b. "you" may not necessarily refer to every reader of this sentence, but hopefully does refer to at least one. i would express this notion using set theory, except i've forgotten how to do discrete math).

I’m really good at

having potential, consuming media, being a sympathetic ear, and bringing out the best in people. presumably also some other stuff. i encourage you to devise your own scientifically rigorous procedures to help us collaboratively determine the answer to this question.

The first things people usually notice about me

that i rarely, if ever, am engulfed in flames. minimal risk of having your eyebrows scorched over here!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

1) my favorite author is haruki murakami (weirdly many people on here say this. it's odd, i didn't realize he was this popular...). i read too many comic books for my own good. i also read a lot of cheesy sci-fi stuff, books about the internet, etc. i occasionally also read what you might call "real literature."

two) japanese movies, angstful indie stuff, twisted sci-fi... things that take place after an apocalypse or in a particularly stylized setting are always good. tank girl is perhaps my favorite movie. it may not be objectively good, but it fills me with joy. p-p-p-pow. i watch more television than movies nowadays, but only the good things on tv.

iii) one week i decided i would only listen to black metal and prince. it was an interesting week. general themes of music i listen to: sad people, sad people who rock, rocking people who are sad, and rocking people. i don't like ironic music. i do like slayer.

d) i primarily subsist on junk food and sandwiches, but i also enjoy a wide variety of delicious foodstuffs (although not so wild about vegetables, in general). i own a fryer, and i know how to use it. i make buffalo wings that could destroy tokyo if given the opportunity.

The six things I could never do without

nah, i think instead i will list six objects and/or metaphysical concepts that i like a lot but am not really dependent upon.

(1) diet coke (no, really, i drink obscene amounts)

(2) my roomba, thomas

(3) hope (i could live in hope (was a good album))

(4) the internet

(5) twitter (my addiction is frightening)

(6) a pillow.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

the future of (the) media in a digital world. also, naps - specifically, when i can have another one.

On a typical Friday night I am

doing stuff. i dunno, going to a concert, having dinner or drinks with friends, seeing a movie, hanging around the house playing video games or watching television, that sort of thing. nothing too crazy, really. i will say that if you're the kind of person who has to go out and have some wild crazy night all the time and can't appreciate a nice quiet night in with some delivery and television, we probably won't get along too great.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

i really haven't 'dated' an enormous amount in my life. i strive to make up for lack of experience with awesomeness, though.

You should message me if

you're interesting, you think i might be interesting. that sounds like a good start, right?

btw, woodside (where i live) is in queens, and it's really quite close to manhattan. just in case you didn't know and were wondering where, exactly, in the hell i am.
