I am curious, funny, and fairly sarcastic.

My Self-Summary

The other day I learned the technical name for a group of jellyfish and then promptly forgot it. Perhaps that's because too much of my brain is taken up by useless knowledge like the lyrics to 80's TV show theme songs and ad jingles. So, yeah, wish I could remember things like world capitals and the names of important politicians, but hey, if you ever need to know the words to Pop Tarts commercials circa 1986, I'm your gal.

Random snippets about me, in no particular order: I love anything that makes me laugh. I wish I could live on the set of "Mad Men," mainly for the furniture. I have grand delusions of someday being able to do the New York Times Sunday crossword as quickly as the people in "Wordplay." Traveling makes me happy, as does exploring San Francisco, which is why I'm in the middle of a project to walk every block of every street here. I'm originally from the east coast, and while I love California, my inner sarcastic New Englander is alive and well. I don't have much patience for bigots, anyone who wants to try to convert me to anything, and haters. I'm slightly obsessed with the "Happy Halloween from Michael McDonald" video on YouTube. (Go on--check it out. You won't be sorry.)

What I’m doing with my life

After majoring in film in college, I moved to San Francisco intending to work on independent and documentary films, then quickly realized it's helpful to have an actual income in order to survive here. That led me to a temp job with a startup, which was acquired by The Man; I stayed until 2004, at which point I left totally free health care and a stable income behind to start my own company. I'm still at it. I wrote a book that was published last fall and has surely sold at least 150 copies.

Another big part of my life is volunteering for an organization here in SF called Shanti. I've been doing this for about 11 years, and it's a pretty awesome spiritual uplift.

I’m really good at

Packing a suitcase, taking highly amateur photos, drinking interesting cocktails, making snarky comments when justified, and writing.

The first things people usually notice about me

My eyes

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Love-of-my-life TV shows: "Arrested Development," "The Office" (both versions), "Mad Men," "Flight of the Conchords," and "Curb Your Enthusiasm"

Favorite-ish movies: "Fog of War," "The Bridge," "It Happened One Night," "Say Anything," and "A Scanner Darkly," to name a few. I just watched "Lars and the Real Girl" and it totally and completely blew me away.

Music: I'm not a fan of rap, R&B, country, and metal [heavy, death, lite, what have you], but most other stuff is fair game, except for smooth jazz, which is possibly the world's worst invention EVER. If forced to name names: Neko Case, the New Pornographers, Interpol, the Decemberists, et cetera

Book-wise, I'll tell you the last two I've read: "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and "Dear American Airlines." Extrapolate at will. I read fewer books than I'd like because I'm often bogged down in some wordy magazine or other.

Food: Pretty much everything except meat, tomatoes, celery, black licorice, orange cheese (especially the powdered kind), and citrus-flavored baked goods

The six things I could never do without

My MacBook, my camera, my iPod, coffee, my sense of humor, and carbs

I spend a lot of time thinking about

why OKCupid asked me whether or not I'd eat human flesh and why so many dog owners in this city are SO LAX AND LAZY about picking up their pets' waste

On a typical Friday night I am

...watching a movie, having dinner with friends, or trying to recover from an insane week of clients

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Um, I used to totally love Garfield in elementary school? Is this "Taxicab Confessions" or what?

You should message me if

You have a good sense of humor; can appreciate (and dish out) sarcasm; are older than 28 and younger than 42-ish; are single; are a non-smoker and never use the phrase (word? number?) "420"; don't care that I have no desire ever to go to Burning Man, haven't skied since 7th grade, and really don't like Haruki Murakami; can explain to me the whole visor-on-backwards-and-upside-down phenom; care about things like proper grammar but aren't uptight; are taller than me (I'm 5'2", so this is not much of a challenge); don't use "u" for "you" or "2" for "to" unless you're texting; and live in or near SF.

Also, while I'm not opposed to communicating by IM here, I much prefer getting e-mail first.
