My Self-Summary
What I’m doing with my life
I love to be creative and am trained in the visual arts, painting and drawing. Plants have always been a love of mine and I have recently fenced in my yard to keep the deer away so that I can have a real garden--- a very satisfying and fun activity, even if the slugs eat half the produce. My life is good and I feel so grateful. I have a healthy grown daughter and am surrounded by supportive friends. Most importantly I strive, (without really striving of course) to cultivate peace and stillness within me.
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I read a lot of Buddhist books to keep delving into that experience on a deeper level, esp: Jack Kornfield and Pema Chodron now.
In other areas, Don Delillo is a favorite, sometimes Richard Powers, Dave Eggars, recently I enjoyed Louise Erdrich's The Plague of Doves, David Sedaris 'cause he cracks me up and and last but not least, the New Yorker.
Theoretically, I enjoy Rebecca Solnit and anyone writing about the intersection of nature, body and the soul. ( hey any suggestions out there?)
Don't do the movie thing too much, tend to go through phases with it> Mostly i enjoy arty films but watch a fair share of silly romantic comedies when my daughter comes to visit. action is good but i get sick of the violence.
Food, yum, mostly I eat simply because I am cooking usually quickly for myself. I don't eat a lot of meat, though if I had access to wild game i would certainly eat it. I enjoy different Asian foods, fresh food: fish and vegetables, hearty soups, really good bread, chocolate.
