My self-summary
Los Angeles. He walks the streets by...well, day, actually, and really who walks in this city? Lentlessly (not relentlessly, he only had one), ruthlessly (no one has seen Ruth in years), doggedly (has a cat actually). He's ready for danger! He's ready for excitement! He's 2πr, Third Eye!

My entire life has been lived on a coast, and all but 4 months of that was the Western one. Highlights include sharing a college with Monica Lewinsky (yes, that Monica Lewisnky), talking my way out of certain doom by explaining to the Portland cops that we were art students (which wasn't true, but it made them smile enough to not arrest us), riding out the dotcom boom and bust at the helm of now-departed MacAddict.com, and inadvertently catalyzing my parents to become Pagan clergy. When the dust settled I found myself here among the fallen angels, where I have remained for nearly a decade.

I am not hipster enough to lay claim to being an artist, but I do tend to find myself involved in creative pursuits. I have been known to kitbash boardgames to make them my own, so much so that I accidentally became one of the minds behind an entire online community for one Star Wars game in particular. I also enjoy shooting and editing silly web videos. In the past I have done improv (well) and karaoke (less well). I have a nice digital camera (and camera phone and camera in my laptop and...sheesh, why do we even need paparazzi anymore?) and at least a clue how to use it.

Rarely an instigator but always up for adventures; my life has become entirely too predictable and I am trying to figure out how to address that. Even if that just means finding new people to play games with.
What I’m doing with my life
At the moment, I am one of a small handful of people responsible for ensuring, on a technical level, that movies and TV shows get to the On Demand menu of your cable company. To say that this is not the ambition of a lifetime is an understatement, but at the moment it keeps a roof over my head and food in my cat's belly. Exactly what the next step looks like I am not certain, and right now am very much trying to figure that out.
I’m really good at
Backrubs. I have no clinical training but I hung out with actors and/or strippers for most of my first quarter century, and I'm good at learning by osmosis.

Keeping a straight face and faking it even when I have no clue what I'm doing.

Trivia. My mind retains useless information like a sponge. This is particularly true of entertainment industry trivia and gossip, as I used to work in marketing and now can't really turn that particular factoid-magnet off.

Figuring stuff out (see above re: faking it). I have a knack for puzzles and for finding obtuse solutions to not so obvious problems. To say nothing of over-complicating the simple ones!
The first things people usually notice about me
If I had a dime for everyone who asked me if I was someone else they had met this one time, I could buy a small island to which to retire. Beyond that I have been told that I have an interesting aura.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I am something of a slow reader; my favorite book of all time is Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon, and I describe it as the best half-year of my life. I am, we should probably get this out of the way now, one of those people who thought The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was incredible, so feel free to use that to judge. Of late I have been reacquainting myself with Steven Brust and bad Star Wars novels. Kurt Voneguit, Catch-22, and Choose Your Own Adventures were all stunningly influential.

Music: according to my last.fm, my favorite bands are: Bad Religion, Abney Park, Sage Francis, Pet Shop Boys, The Offspring, The Sounds, Dean Gray, and Porcelain and the Tramps. That's about right, though I'd add Garbage, Poe, and Information Society to that list, and note that the Impotent Sea Snakes were the best live band I've ever seen.

Movies: in the theater I like to see big stupid escapist movies that take me out of my own life, such as anything starring Jason Statham (though Michael Bay need not apply). In general, I'm more interested in a movie being well-made and -written than a particular genre, though I have an exceptional weakness for witty, dialog based comedies (Clue and Easy A come to mind). I also have a secret passion for drive-in fare of the 60s and 70s (Corman, we hardly knew ye). These three motifs came to an unexpected apex in 2010's Machete.

Shows: live, preferably. Since making sure that TV shows make it across the country is something I worry about 8-11 hours a day, six days a week, turning the TV on is pretty much the last thing I want to do when I get home. That said, True Blood and Boardwalk Empire are both particular favorites, as was Firefly, and no mention of TV is complete without Penn & Teller's Bullshit. Serious about live, though: there is a passion to theatrical performance that no other medium really captures, in my opinion. I have a Gold Star account and I'm not afraid to use it - maybe with you?

Food: I'll try anything once. Though I've yet to find a Thai dish I really love.
The six things I could never do without
An Internet connection. The tubes connect me to too much entertainment and information - to say nothing of too many people - to be considered optional at this point.

My iPod. Preferably with the above for podcasts.

A game of some kind. Doesn't have to be electronic, doesn't matter if it is. No game handy? Give me pebbles and chalk and we'll play checkers. Play is the stuff of both life and community.

Jelly beans. It is possible that life is worth living without them. I'm okay with not knowing.

Media storage and playback. Who are we kidding? Our stories are what define us. The iPod is technically covered here but it's used symbolically above to represent music.

Friends. Cheesy as hell, I'll be the first to admit, but ultimately our community is what defines our life. No joy in life is not made sweeter when shared with someone you value.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life after the apocalypse. What camera angle would best capture certain moments of life. What my cat dreams of, for the 20 some odd hours a day she is sleeping. How I can make some kind of meaningful difference in the world. Ways that various computing tasks could be tackled via command line Linux. Where I go from here.
On a typical Friday night I am
Chilling at home, because I have to get up at dark thirty to make it to work on Saturday. But I'm always open to suggestion. :)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have, more than once, started accidental fires while cooking. I swear I'm getting better.
