My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am someone who has there life pretty much well in hand: emotionally, intellectually, financially. I know who I am and what I want, but haven't found someone I want to share my life with. If you're looking for someone to party with, I'm not your guy. I'm much happier having conversation over dinner, watching movies, or having small gatherings of friends.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I've worked retail and retail management for the past ten years, but this year I've saved up enough to spend all my time pursuing a writing career. Specifically, science fiction.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Logic puzzles, solving problems in crisis situations (thank you management experience), finding out what makes people tick, suspending disbelief, and creating a good plot.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have no idea the answer to this question. I intend to ask the next person I meet what they notice about me and rush to report it to you.

If they are around long enough to spend some time talking to me, people usually find out I know a lot of random and not so random pieces of information.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
When I read other people's profiles this is the section I jump to first. I like to see what they like to see if there's any common interests. I also like to see at least one favorite book to demonstrate literacy. :-p

Eat Pray Love by Eliabeth Gilbert
Dune by Frank Herbert
The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin
Almost by Nicola Griffith
Solitaire by Kelley Eskridge
The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman
The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell
Anne Rice
David Brin

Hunger Games
The Pillow Book
Les Chansons D'Amour (Love Songs)
The Dreamers
Underworld & Underworld Evolution
Dune (the original as well as the SyFy mini series Dune & Children of Dune)
Aliens (as well as the rest of the franchise)
Pitch Black
Chronicles of Riddick
Push (the one staring Chris Evans & Dakota Fanning)
Star Trek (the new reboot as well as the old series)
Playing by the Heart
And yes, countless anime titles

FAVORITE TELEVISION: (otherwise known as the shows I DVR or used to DVR)
Game of Thrones
Lost Girl (and if you haven't watched it, you should)
Doctor Who
La Femme Nikita
Project Runway
Battlestar Galactica
And Xena...

FAVORITE MUSIC: This section is difficult because, apparently, my music tastes are changing. Still listen to Tori Amos, Alanis Morisette, Pink but recently have been tending towards pop as opposed to alternative. For example, Adam Lambert, Cobra Starship, Lady Gaga.

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
There is absolutely nothing I could not survive without except food, shleter, and water.

Having said that, here's my attempt at answering the spirit of the question. The six things I really would rather not do without:

1. Books
2. Writing Implements (by extension a computer)
3. My cat
4. Companionship (including family)
5. Plants
6. Mobility
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The future, be it my future, the country's future, or humanity's future.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I am either a) hanging out with a friend or two at a restaurant having a conversation that probably includes current events and interpersonal relationships, b) home watching television, reading, or interneting (new verb, feel free to use it), or c) sitting in a cafe or at home writing.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
1. You have the guts and patience to work towards a long term relationship.
2. You have the brains, wits, or tenacity to keep the conversation going.
3. You feel inclined to do so.

4. Finally, if you know where this quote comes from:
"Aime-moi moins, mais aime-moi longtemps"
