I'm more likely to read a comic book, diet lifestyle book or text
book than fiction these days... Though I've read lots of Stephen
King, Clive Barker, J. R. R. Tolkien, Philip K. Dick, Douglas
Adams, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clark, Robert A. Heinlein, H. P.
Lovecraft, Kurt Vonnegut, Jules Verne and Frank Herbert. I recently
plowed through quite the number of classics by the likes of
Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, H.
G. Wells and Robert Louis Stevenson.
I like to get out of the house to see a lot of local and traveling
bands. Mostly rock and roll... According to iTunes, I have punk and
metal of various types, surf, reggae, garage, grunge, classic rock,
hard rock, progressive rock, psychobilly, rockabilly, rhythm and
blues, soul, etc.
I enjoy movies quite a bit too. I'd say on average I catch about a
movie a week at the theater, unless a film festival is in town. I
like to head out for an independent, foreign or repertory movie as
much as the new blockbuster. Recently, I enjoyed getting out to see
two classic silent films with live musical accompaniment. I am kind
of particular about what movies to see to an extent and I think I
have a gift for which movies to avoid outright. I only enjoy
comedies in the company of others and don't enjoy seeing them
alone. They're just more fun when you have someone to share the
laughter with. I enjoy a well told horror film. I'm a sucker for
science fiction, though the good ones are few and far between. I
support local independent cinema and film festivals.
When it comes to television shows, many of my favorites have
recently concluded, like Breaking Bad and Fringe. I really enjoyed
the mid-season finale of Walking Dead and I like Doctor Who.
