I am geeky, adventurous, and thirsty.

My Self-Summary

I go through phases of thinking I'm different superheroes. Previously I was a rum-guzzling pirate. Now I'm a beer-guzzling ninja robot. I'm not exactly sure where the hero part comes in but uh, just trust me.

EDIT: I'm not sure why I felt the need years ago when I wrote this to be a ninja AND a robot at the same time. Seems a bit greedy. In the time since, I've had a chance to reflect (and break my foot) so I am now a wine-guzzling criminal mastermind.

EDIT PART DEUX: My foot has mostly recovered so I'm out and about as a hobbling booze bandit.

What I’m doing with my life

I just got back to Texas from roaming around Oregon for a couple months. I keep pretty busy but I'm always on the lookout for some folks to explore DFW and have some adventures with.

Work-wise, I have two and a half jobs. During the day, I work at a Montessori school. In the evenings, I work on a nonprofit organization that I helped start up a couple years ago that trains Montessori teachers, helps em find jobs, hosts conferences, workshops, etc. I'm pretty passionate about Montessori education. If you know what Montessori is, you automatically are owed 10 passionate high fives.

Obviously by night, I'm a superhero. It's only part-time though.

I'm also in the market for a bowling league... and someone to teach me how to not be an awful bowler.

I’m really good at

Guess Who?, Candyland, and equally childish board games. And World of Warcraft. And games that involve plastic instruments. I'm the official Ringo Starr of my Rock Band band.

Outside of video games, I'm pretty good at getting along with all sorts of characters and unsavory misfits. I'm not into hastily judging people/situations and like to give the benefit of the doubt. It gets me into trouble sometimes but I have to stick around at least long enough to see all sides, if for no other reason than to satisfy my curiosity.

I'm also pro at completing online market research surveys for pennies.

The first things people usually notice about me

My shoes generally have holes in them. Somehow I've created a mental block against buying new shoes.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Evasion, America by Jon Stewart, Chronicles of a Death Foretold, Oresteia, Brave New World, The Bell Jar, Harry Potter

Movies: Let's not go this route for now. But if you were to look at the Google maps of my favorite movies (you know, where they show you the noteable landmarks), it would look a little like this. Big Lebowski, Army of Darkness, Pan's Labyrinth, Reservoir Dogs, Bubba Hotep, American Splendor, Young Frankenstein, Carnival of Souls, Ong-bak, SLC Punk, Children of Men, Oldboy, The Brain That Wouldn't Die, Rear Window, etc.

Music: It's going to frustrate me leaving out so much good music but here's the Google map version. The Ramones, Flogging Molly, X, the Toadies, the Mountain Goats, the Weakerthans, Explosions in the Sky, System of a Down, Prefuse 73, the Books, Atmosphere, MSI, Tiger Army, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cake, NOFX, Bad Religion, etc.

Food: I'm a master at cooking anything that comes out of a box.

I also feel it necessary to include an additional category...
Web Comics: Married to the Sea, Penny Arcade, Toothpaste for Dinner, Diesel Sweeties, Rehabilitating Mr. Wiggles, etc.

The six things I could never do without

1) the internets
2) dumpsters and thrift stores
3) video games
4) stories
5) traveling and exploring
6) my little bro

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Buying a conversion van to travel the country in and how I would decorate it. I tried spray painting the entire inside of one once but to step foot into it afterwards was a test of physical limits.

On a typical Friday night I am

I'm always down for something random. So my Fridays vary... could be at a house show, bowling while sipping white russians, pool hustling, at a midnight show at the Inwood, gaming, with a friend finding the scariest movie on tv, or driving around aimlessly, trying to get lost with the music up way too loud.

Or I might be doing absolutely nothing with a book and a bottle of wine.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

You don't want to see my DVR.

You should message me if

You would like to challenge me to a gladiator-esque battle to the death.
