My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I decided I need to add a photo of me jumping into Crater Lake. Unfortunately, it's still on a friend's camera. Suppose I should do something about that. (8/9)

I can be silly and am usually completely relaxed and easy-going, but I can also focus and be serious when it’s time for that. In some ways I'm very spontaneous, and in others, I am a thorough planner.

Travel is a huge priority in my life. I am constantly thinking about where I can/should/want to go and how I can get there. I have been to most states and several countries. It's pretty much a basic need for me, whether a weekend road trip an hour away or going to Europe for two weeks with a train pass and no plans.

I am originally from southern CA, but have also lived in Washington and Hungary. I love the Pacific NW and am happy to be back.

I love nature and being outdoors. Running, hiking, camping, and exploring with my camera all make me happy. If I must workout indoors, it's usually yoga or TRX. I am a huge baseball fan and I’m also really into some college sports – especially women’s soccer and basketball.

I'm a "lifelong-learner": I love listening to podcasts like Radiolab and 99% Invisible, I think TED talks are awesome, sometimes I do online university courses for fun, and I will actually open a dictionary when I read a word I don’t know.

Divorced, but no kids.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I teach math to not-quite-adults and no-longer-middle-schoolers. If you guessed that I am referring to high school, you win.

I love photography and have a website for my images. I also have a blog. A general one, with travel, thoughts, etc.

Besides that, I'm slowly finding my favorite restaurants, concert spots, and hiking trails around PDX. Also, trying to develop a taste for IPAs. Still can't stand them. There are exactly four that score higher than "yuck."
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
- Spending quality time with people, being diplomatic, and trying to understand others' points of view.
- Cooking, Photography, Random trivia, Jeopardy-style facts and "figuring things out,"
- Planning travel, reading maps, finding my way when I don't have a map... really, anything visual or spatial.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm (not too) tall. That and I've also been told people can tell I'm thoughtful, attentive, and have an eye for details.

People seem to think I'm competitive, too... a bit more than I think I am... Not in a ruthless way, though.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Sister Carrie (Theodore Dreiser) and My Antonia (Willa Cather). I go for classic nonfiction, but I also like Michael Crichton and some non-fiction (psychology, econ, etc.). I've been trying to read more contemporary fiction lately.

Movies: Leon the Professional, Girl with a Dragon Tattoo (Swedish cast), Anchorman, The Usual Suspects, The Ring, School of Rock, V for Vendetta, Inception, Sunset Blvd., Midnight in Paris, Office Space, It Happened One Night, Spirited Away…just to name some.

Shows: SNL, The Big Bang Theory, The Amazing Race, The Voice, sporting events. I'm fairly new to Netflix and am slowly working my way through everything friends have told me I have to see.

Music: I usually listen to the alternative, unsigned artist channels like 94.7FM, XM-Alt Nation, or XMU. But really, I like songs from pretty much every genre. R&B, rap, and opera - not so much! I've been listening to a lot of dubstep lately.
Some favorite bands right now are: Phantogram, Chvrches, Counting Crows, The Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, and The XX. I like some songs from Broadway musicals, too.

Food: I'll often choose the vegetarian option - it makes me feel healthier. But mainly I just like really good food. I especially love Italian, Thai, and Greek cuisine. There are way too many favorite foods to list – I’d probably try almost anything that doesn't sound completely disgusting. But I generally make healthy choices when I eat. I like buying local, organic, etc. - and have absolutely no problem paying more for good quality food. I'm slowly working my way through Portland's eateries.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Friends and family...others who I care about
Travel
My camera
The opportunity to learn new things
The ability to exercise
Changes in the weather (sun, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
All of the places I want to travel to
My future
People who are important to me
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Maybe opening some beer or wine, at a sporting event, out running, hanging out with friends at a coffee shop, or heading out for a little weekend getaway. Definitely, I'm doing something relaxing. I have never been one to go out and party into the early morning.

I don’t really treat Friday different that any other weekday. I love my job, so I don't spend my workdays waiting for the weekend to come around... I don't feel like I need to do something "special" on Friday night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
1) The song "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry makes me shed a tear or two.
