My self-summary
I sold my soul to Cthulhu, but he gave it back and asked for a refund.

Seriously, though, I'm a guy who loves to laugh and loves hanging out with people. You're most likely to find me hanging out with my friends doing nerdy things.

As for what I'm looking for in a young lady, I think Jars of Clay caught it rather well in the song "Reckless Forgiver:"

"All I want is peace like a river
Long life of sanity, love that won't leave too soon
Someone to pull out the splitters
The reckless forgiver
Know that I'm talking to you..."
What I’m doing with my life
Professionally, I currently work nights for the Department of Defense doing things which I can't talk about. Nothing mysterious or exciting, just... unmentionable. I can talk about previous jobs, which include three different libraries (nerd) and a seven year stint in broadcasting as a big-city board operator and small-town radio personality.

Other than that, I love spending time with friends. That's accomplished mostly through board games and RPGs. To me, gaming is a primal thing. It is collective story telling. It helps me become part of a creative space bigger than myself. I'm also currently the host of a podcast about tabletop gaming. I also started a second podcast about film criticism.

I will mention that I am a committed Christian with a heart for social justice and making the world a better place. When I can, I volunteer with local soup kitchens and mix audio for my church, and I've done some short-term missions work in the past (Jamaica and China). I love being involved in Bible studies, talking about what the Christian faith is and how it fits in this busy 21st century world. In September, I started teaching an adult Sunday School class on the names of God.

I've also recently helped out with an independent feature-length movie. They needed a band with a Eastern European folk rock sound, so the director approached me to be in the band, arranging music and acting. The experience was a lot of fun, and I'd like to get more involved in that type of thing. I spent some time in the studio recording a companion EP, and was really excited to hear the master of our "big" song. It's really a dream come true.

I spend a lot of time with my younger siblings, too. They're much younger (11 and 9), and I think they're some of the coolest people around. It warmed my heart the other day to have a serious talk with my brother about our favorite Marvel heroes. I'm a big Daredevil fan, and he went for Black Panther!
I’m really good at
A few different things. I'm a demon when it comes to putting together a live mix in an auditorium. I've done it for over seven years on a volunteer basis, and it's something I enjoy a lot.

I'd like to think that I'm a pretty decent musician, but since musical taste is so personal, I'd leave that assessment up to you. I know I am a fantastic shower-singer, though. ;)

I'm also really good at cooking chili. But be warned -- I have a passion for habanero peppers, so there's a pretty elegant kick. I also have a good hand for desserts. Specialties include chocolate and heath bar trifles, peach cobbler, and hot milk cake.

I love talking to people and learning about their life story. Given the chance, I'd sit and talk to someone for hours. Every person's story is unique, and should be heard. I'm a subscriber to Kenneth Burke's theory of Dramatism.

I'm also a huge klutz. Absolutely horrible at walking across a floor in a straight line.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably the beard. My hair is a light, sandy brown but my beard is full-on ginger. My baby sister says that I look like a young Santa Claus.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm very much a bookworm, so this section will be hard for me to fill out. In terms of genre, I read mostly science fiction and fantasy. Recently, I worked my way through the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, and I really enjoyed them. I'm currently Happy Hour in Hell by Tad Williams, Pandemic by Scott Sigler, and The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer.

In terms of movies, I like older films and foreign films. It's become a joke when I ask friends to watch movies with me: "Is it in color? Is it in English?" Now, that's not to say I don't keep up with the summer blockbusters. But my time as a mass communications major really exposed me to a lot of different things out there, and I've come to appreciate the more artistic film. I also have a pretty varied taste in TV.

My musical tastes are wide and varied. In addition to the mass communications degree, I have a degree in music, so I've listened to a lot of stuff which is outside the normal realm of the American musical taste. I find myself coming back to Americana and folk rock most often, but enjoy a lot of jazz (bebop, please) and classical music (mostly baroque).

I'm really lucky in the food department. I'm not picky. We have a lot of really good restaurants around, too, so I love going to different places as regularly as possible. I have a special love for Jamaican food, but Korean and Peruvian are two that I get regularly, too.

The six things I could never do without
My glasses. I have a distaste of sticking glass onto my eyeballs, and I have a phobia of lasers. They may make me look nerdy (which is the truth), but to me they're indispensable.

My friends. I'm a person who strongly draws my personality from those people I am with. I've worked hard to cultivate a group of friends who are strong, smart individuals. They hold me accountable. They challenge me. And they're a boatload of fun to be around.

My Guitar and Ukulele. OK, I know, I'm cheating here, but they're both fretted musical instruments, so that has to count for something. ;) I love making music, and will often grab one or the other (or both) for some musical noodling before my day really begins.

Dice. As a gamer, I'd be really in trouble if I had to borrow someone else's dice. Also, don't let other people touch yours. That could jinx them.

My Sketchbook I love drawing and cartooning. If I had been a more confident person when I was younger, I would have gone to school to become an artist so I could try to draw a comic strip for the funny pages. I'm heavily influenced by Vic Lockman and Preston Blair, and that really comes out in my personal style.

My iPod I love music, but I'm also a big fan of podcasts and audio books. I have to have an iPod classic because, yes, I need to have over 120 gigs worth of audio to listen to all the time.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Random things. Like: What if every work of fiction is in reality a parallel universe to our own? What would I do if I met Bigfoot? Are clowns really trying to control the world? Who thought it was a good idea to commonly include rocks in dentistry? Why do so many people on this website list Chapstick as one of their six things they couldn't do without?
On a typical Friday night I am
Working. The joy of working nights. If I have the night off, I'm probably gaming with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am pretty willing to share just about anything, but the strongest thing I will say about myself is that I've never really dated before. There have been several young ladies that I've been interested in, but never had the courage to open my mouth and say so.

I monologue when I'm nervous. It's a bad habit, and I'm trying to break it. Working in radio made me dread dead air, so I'll ramble if I think that's happening.
