I am affectionate, fun, and spontaneous.

My Self-Summary

I like ultimate frisbee, swing dancing, reading, hot chocolate, iced coffee, and waking up slowly on Saturdays.

I'm all about practical approaches to 'fixing' the world-fair trade, microcredit, green jobs, the whole nine. I prefer independent retailers and locally grown produce, though convenience often drives me to the Giant.

I laugh loudly, tip well, and obey all traffic rules except speed limits. I don't really do pop culture-I don't follow celebrities, fashions, bands, or tv shows (with the exception of Jon Stewart). I'm a true nerd and a geek by association. I love history, sociology, religious studies, etymology, and word games; many of my friends run Linux, know at least a couple phrases of elvish, and/or play D&D. I follow xkcd and play Munchkin, so they've had some influence.

My bookshelves are really crowded, yet I have trouble resisting the urge to buy more every time I go into a bookstore. Used bookstores are even worse, since they're usually independent and the books are being reused, so it's sustainable, right? Right?

I have hazel eyes, but they're prone to changing colors depending on what I'm wearing. I love the ocean, Philadelphia, feminism, good conversation, open spaces, and I switch between being very well grounded and completely spontaneous.

I’m really good at

Back rubs, making ginger-curry chicken stir fry, leaving my keys....somewhere not useful. Staying out all day at the beach. Cartwheels. Lifting heavy things. Drinking whole milk by the quart. Finding a beat and dancing to it - on the dance floor or at the Wawa.

The first things people usually notice about me

People tell me that I'm tall all the time. This is odd both because they say this as if it's news to me (like I haven't been 5'10" since the seventh grade) and because I am basically the shrimp of my family. My older siblings are both bigger and taller, and I only have 10 pounds on my 16-year-old little sister. People are even more amazed when I tell them this.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Fiction: anything by Terry Pratchett, Anne LaMott, or Barbara Kingsolver; To Kill a Mockingbird; The Eyre Affair; Lamb, The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. Also the Potter series and, embarrassingly, the Twilight saga (my little sister got me into them and though the writing leaves something to be desired the storyline is captivating).

Non-fiction: Freakonomics, Savage Inequalities, Unequal Childhoods, Brian McLaren, Niebuhr, most things about history of religion and/or sociology.

Movies: The Classics (Princess Bride, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spaceballs), Good Will Hunting, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, LOTR.

Music genres: rock, indie rock, girl rock, a capella, jazz, anything i can dance to. pandora is my friend.

Particular favorites: India Arie, Fiona Apple, Eagle Eye Cherry, Jars of Clay, Norah Jones, Green Day, Pearl Jam, Shakira, Indigo Girls, Jimmy Eat World, Dispatch.

Food: stawberries, chocolate, steak, zucchini, spinach. Steak and zucchini followed by chocolate covered strawberries may in fact be the perfect meal, especially if the entree is grilled.

The six things I could never do without

Chapstick, family, movement, space to play, work I love, and chocolate.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How to save the world without tearing down every system that's already in place. How to sauté large amounts of vegetables (smaller servings are easy, but I have a big family). How the U.S. corporate structure has gotten to be where it is today, and how best to move it forward. Why more municipalities don't have composting systems. How to improve my frisbee-throwing skills. Why the city of Philadelphia has such ridiculous and confusing parking rules. How to organize my bookshelves. How to go about fixing the U.S. justice system. Whether or not the fact that I judge peoples' profiles based on their grammar makes me an elitist jerk. How the hell third wave feminism is going to jumpstart itself back into relevance. What I should cook for dinner tonight.

On a typical Friday night I am

Playing frisbee. Seeing a movie. Visiting friends in other cities. Going down the shore. Dancing. Relaxing with a glass of wine and a good book.

Probably not all at the same time though.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm 'religious' in the sense that I go to church every week (for those of you wondering, it's a pretty liberal church with a focus on social justice and civic engagement that has vague ties to PCUSA).

I'm 'religious' in the sense that I spend a lot of time thinking about God, Jesus, church, etc.

I'm not 'religious' in that my beliefs are undefined most of the time. When thinking about God, Jesus, church, etc. I'm about as likely to be arguing with God over his/her existence as I am to be figuring out how best to work for a restored kingdom.

You should message me if

If you want to hang out in Philly and maybe go for a walk, or see a movie, or go to the art museum, or go for a hike in the Philadelphia woods (I love that there are woods within the city limits of Philadelphia), or go for a hike somewhere completely different.

*or*

If you know of a cool local beer I should try.
If you can help me improve my squat technique.
If you compost.
If you make really good steak or chocolate covered strawberries.
