My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
i'm a photographer- mostly magazine stuff, but newly re-interested in going in a more fine art direction. i moved to new york two weeks after graduating from college (art school), so i've been here almost sixteen years already, which is shocking to me. i do absolutely love it here, and the thrill of seeing the skyline when i come back from a trip has never worn off. happily, this happens not infrequently (yeah double negative) as i've been able to travel around the world quite a bit on photography assignments, and i feel so lucky for that.

i am very liberal, i listen to a ton of npr, and i love really good stand-up comedy. i want to go see more of it. music is also extremely important to me- as i've been looking around on this site i tend to scroll down to each person's musical preferences before reading anything else. i'd like to see more live shows than i have been recently. and i love random purposeless (or purposeful) walks around the city- my feet are my favorite mode of transport. i make lots of lists and weirdly enjoy watching rats scurry on subway tracks.

i'm shy at first, but after i get to know someone i think people find me to be pretty funny. haha funny, not strange funny. it's not much in evidence here, but i have a dark, dry and kinda effed up sense of humor.

I am kind, loving, and curious
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
this question is so big that i'm not sure what to do with it. professionally i'm in the ballpark of what i'm interested in doing for life, i'm just tweaking the details. more generally speaking, i want to stop time from moving so fast, i want to be good to people i know and people i don't know, and to remember not to take my really pretty amazing life for granted.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
getting on the train first at penn station when i take amtrak- there's a secret system, shhh. being affectionate. spelling. irish exits. standardized tests (i'm a good guesser). when i was little i used to be able to get butterflies to walk onto my finger and hang out but it's been a while. i'm not remotely good at it, but do you want to play scrabble with me sometime?
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
i'm kind of insanely pale.

books. well, i spend a lot of time trying to plow through my teetering stack of new yorker magazines, but when i do get sucked into a book it tends to be nonfiction. my favorite book recently was 'the lost city of Z,' a true adventure-mystery about an obsessed explorer of the Amazon who disappeared searching for a rumored ancient civilization deep in the jungle. it was awesome. even better were the crazy stories shared with me when i mentioned to anyone that i was reading this book- like the friend of a friend's dad's schoolmate who was swallowed whole by an anaconda. etc, etc. also loved the david mccullough's john adams biography. currently reading 'the emperor of all maladies' and it's incredible.

as for movies, nine times out of ten i want to see documentaries. some favorites off the top of my head- darkon, the cruise, the war room, paradise lost (hurray west memphis three!), spellbound, grizzly man...the other one time out of ten i will go see a hollywood blockbuster and stuff my face with popcorn. also i love christopher guest movies, which seems so obvious i shouldn't even have to say it! and let the right one in. the queen. coming to america. also a soft spot for the princess bride and when harry met sally.

tv... rarely turn it on but i love: sixty minutes, cbs sunday morning, the sunday morning political talk shows, rachel maddow, game of thrones, storage wars, downton abbey, girls, tosh.o, antiques roadshow, anything on the history or discovery channel, dave chappelle, archer, and i used to watch jon stewart and stephen colbert all the time, but not so much these days for some reason.

musically i spent high school listening to a lot of fugazi, my bloody valentine and a tribe called quest, and my tastes haven't changed particularly. i'm still primarily an indie music fan, with a huge streak of appreciation for good rap, and the occasional catchy top 40 pop song. some other favorites: the wrens, nas, the smiths, they might be giants, built to spill, tv on the radio, pixies, slick rick, rollerskate skinny, fleetwood mac, spoon, cam'ron and the diplomats, pharcyde, scott joplin and many, many more. when i love a song i will play it on repeat for days. lately though i've been listening to patton oswalt and kyle kinane stand-up comedy albums and npr more than music. i go in phases.

i love food. almost all of it. mmmm southern food sweet tea and boiled peanuts, chinese broccoli, seafood, sushi, tator tots, thai, breakfast, lobster rolls, deviled eggs, avocados, artichokes, pretty much all vegetables.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
skymall, naps, big sunny windows, yellow mustard, NPR (this american life, wait wait don't tell me, bullseye, marketplace [kai ryssdal!] car talk), summer thunderstorms
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
happiness. what comes next.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
i'm freelance, so my schedule is erratic and weekends don't mean the same thing to me as they do to other people. a friday night is no different than a tuesday night. in any case, i'm generally seeing a friend one on one for dinner or drinks or i'm in my apartment procrastinating.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
lately i've been playing words with friends like it's my job.

you are a nice person with integrity and ambition. it would be great if you read books and know what's going on the world. and if you want someone to laugh with.
