I am silly, cynical, and cerebral.
My Self-Summary
I read, I write -- mostly code, a little fiction, even less poetry.
I play games of all sorts. I watch movies and TV.
I try notice as I move through the world: the shapes and textures
of the leaves on the trees, the throaty roar of the diesel engine,
the rosy pink aurora of a streetlight in the fog.
When I was younger, I rode a skateboard everywhere I went and I
wandered the quiet streets and sidewalks in the tiny hours of
morning, talking about serious things while the crickets sang. I am
not that boy any more, but his mark remains.
What I’m doing with my life
Professionally, I'm coasting: I have a job that demands plenty but
does not push me much.
More personally, my life is fairly dull. I've managed to live in
Boston for a couple years without really establishing any
meaningful friendships.
I have a 10-yr old son who lives out-of-state with his mother; I
moved here from California to be closer to them. He is the North
Star in my life.
I’m really good at
working with language. I'm pretty good with software, too. I seem
to have an empathetic knack, and I've had some luck helping people
feel better when they're down.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm very tall. I'm pretty sure that's the first thing. After that,
I couldn't tell you.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I like lots of all four. Some recent favorites: Cormac McCarthy's
_The Road_ and Neal Stephenson's _Anathema_; _Coraline_ and
_Frost/Nixon_; The Decemberists and Siouxsie; eggs florentine and
Loose Cannon ale.
The six things I could never do without
I would be at a loss without a computer; most of my life is
there.
I like to have at least one book in progress at all times; I feel
restless if I don't.
I carry my Swiss Army Knife with me pretty much everywhere but
airplanes; a remnant of my Boy Scout years.
More generally, I would find it hard to live without stories to
nourish my imagination.
That's only four, but I'm giving up early.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
all my eclectic interests. I live my life inside my mind, and so I
am almost always thinking about something.
On a typical Friday night I am
surprised to discover everyone else has left the office already.
Later, I might be logged into World of Warcraft or laying on the
couch, feeding my hunger for narrative via a book or a movie.
